Spain · Valencia, Spain, with an outing to El Palmar and Albufera Natural Park
Six days in Valencia: markets, gardens, art, the beach and Albufera at leisure
Six sightseeing days in Valencia with markets, gardens, art, Cabanyal, Malvarrosa and Albufera, plus alternatives and food stops.

GETTING STARTED
We suggest devoting a day to each combination: Mercado Central and Lonja; Botànic and Turia; City of Arts and Sciences; Cabanyal and Malvarrosa; El Palmar and Albufera; art and Mercado Colón. These are six sightseeing days, with arrival and departure counted separately, and alternatives to adjust visits to opening schedules and interests.
Who it is for: Brazilians visiting Valencia for the first time who enjoy architecture, markets, art and outdoor outings.Six sightseeing days, with room to linger
You can spend six days in Valencia without turning the trip into a collection of entrances and exits. Here, we suggest giving each day one main theme: markets and architecture; gardens; science and contemporary buildings; neighbourhood and beach; lagoon; art and a good food stop. You change scenery without needing to cross the city to fit in one final attraction.
These are six full days available for sightseeing, with arrival and departure counted separately. This is a focus on Valencia and Albufera within a longer trip, rather than a complete first trip around Spain. The numbering organises the combinations; you can move the days around.
Before arranging visits in the calendar, fit Mercado Central into a Monday-to-Saturday morning. The municipal hours consulted are 07:30–15:00. For Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero, the page consulted lists Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00–20:00, and Sunday, 10:00–15:00. Check exceptions for your date and use these two commitments to order the rest.
Day 1: Mercado Central, a stop at Central Bar and Lonja
Begin at Mercado Central in Plaza de la Ciudad de Brujas. Opened in 1928, it combines iron, ceramics, glass and stone. Among the general market and fish-market stalls, look at the domes and light coming through the upper sections: the architecture deserves as much attention as the aisles.
The suggested stop is Central Bar inside the market itself. It fits well because you can eat before continuing to Lonja without adding another address to the route. The establishment’s current page brings together menus, drinks and daily suggestions; confirm opening hours directly with the establishment and choose from what is available.
Next, head to Lonja de la Seda in Plaza del Mercado. The late-fifteenth-century building was built for commercial transactions and adds another dimension to the morning’s theme. Visit Sala de Contratación with its eight columns, Consulado del Mar and Patio de los Naranjos. The market and Lonja make a sufficient combination for a relaxed first day: we suggest adding no further ticketed visit in the afternoon.

Before continuing to Lonja, allow time to look up too: Mercado Central’s structure is part of the outing.

Begin day two at Universitat de València’s Jardí Botànic, Calle Quart, 80. Its origins in botany teaching appear in the diversity of its collections: palms, tropical plants, cacti and other desert-environment plants. This is a visit for noticing differences between plants and lingering in the collections that interest you.
Afterwards, change pace in Jardín del Turia. The park occupies the former riverbed and stretches approximately nine kilometres between Parque de Cabecera and the City of Arts and Sciences, with paths, gardens and fountains. We suggest walking a stretch towards Parque de Cabecera, finishing when you want a break. You already have another day devoted to the City of Arts and Sciences.
If you enjoy guided tours, consult Botànic’s Gabinete de Didáctica, which offers tours of the collections. This is a concrete alternative to exploring independently: allow more time for the garden and shorten the Turia stretch. Confirm tour availability on your date before organising the day around it.
Day 3: choose your way into the City of Arts and Sciences
At the City of Arts and Sciences, it is worth arriving with a choice already made. For this itinerary, we suggest beginning with Museu de les Ciències, devoted to interactive science. Give the visit time before heading out to observe the architectural complex and walk through Umbracle, the landscaped viewpoint.
Complete the day with a Hemisfèric screening. First choose the session that interests you, then adjust the order of museum, walk and screening. This avoids spending the museum visit watching the clock. Palau de les Arts and Àgora, which houses CaixaForum, are also part of the complex, but you do not need to add them as further ticketed visits that day.
If Oceanogràfic is your priority, put it in place of Museu de les Ciències. Keep the walk to explore the architecture and leave Hemisfèric as a possibility, according to the session and time you wish to give the main visit. Making a selection is what lets you enjoy the complex without feeling you rushed through everything.

Hemisfèric appears twice on day three: during the walk around the complex and at your chosen screening.

Devote the first part of the day to Cabanyal. Sant Pere, La Reina and Escalante are the streets Visit València recommends for observing houses with colourful, tiled façades. Walk while noticing their differences: here, building details lead the outing.
Include the Camins de la Pesca route to connect the walk with the neighbourhood’s fishing history. Afterwards, continue to Cabanyal beach and follow the coast to Malvarrosa. The combination takes you from residential streets to the open seascape without adding a distant attraction in the afternoon.
To shorten the day, keep La Reina, Escalante and Cabanyal beach. Malvarrosa can be omitted from the programme without compromising the neighbourhood visit. This works as a seaside walk; you can enjoy this side of Valencia without needing weather suitable for swimming.

Malvarrosa is the suggested continuation for those wanting to extend the Cabanyal outing into a longer seaside walk.

Allow a separate day for El Palmar and Albufera Natural Park. El Palmar is a fishing village surrounded by rice fields; exploring it before taking a boat helps relate the lagoon landscape to life along its shores. We suggest combining the village visit with a trip on a traditional boat.
Choose the boat service and confirm boarding point, time and operation before leaving Valencia. For public transport, the official source lists EMT routes 24 and 25 for access to the Albufera area. Check which route serves your stop and intended return: El Palmar and Gola de Pujol require separate transport choices.
If you prefer staying on land, the alternative is the Gola de Pujol jetty, recommended by the source for watching dusk. Use it instead of the boat trip, or add it only if transport allows a relaxed combination. To stay for late afternoon, plan the return after that time too.
The rice-field landscape changes with the season. The source describes harvesting in September and winter flooding between November and December; an October visit should therefore not begin with an expectation of green or flooded fields. Go for the combination of El Palmar, water and agricultural landscape, letting the season show its version of the place.

Albufera’s waterscape gets its own itinerary day, with El Palmar as the suggested starting point for a boat trip.

Begin at Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero and allow time for the palace and collection. If visiting by 25 October 2026, include Anselm Kiefer, on display since 29 April 2026. There are 11 works across six galleries, including four from the permanent collection: a concrete reason to give the exhibition attention during the visit.
Next, continue to Mercado Colón at Calle Jorge Juan, 19. We suggest lunch at Habitual on the lower level. It is already at your destination for the second half of the day; check opening hours, menus and whether reservations are needed directly with the restaurant before relying on this lunch stop.
For a shorter stop, choose Horchatería Daniel, also listed by Mercado Colón. Day six then ends with two well-defined visits and a food break without requiring another museum. For trips after Anselm Kiefer closes, check the centre’s programme and keep the collection visit as your reference.
If travelling in October 2026, adjust the itinerary to the programme
The programme was consulted on 5 October 2026. For art lovers, Anselm Kiefer, running 29 April–25 October 2026, is the choice best suited to this itinerary: it adds a temporary exhibition to the art centre already planned on day six. Simply adjust the order to the venue’s opening.
If you enjoy road running and are in the city on 25 October 2026, another option is watching Medio Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich. The date is confirmed in the tourism calendar and on the organiser’s page. Consult the official route to choose a viewing location and replace part of an itinerary day, rather than adding the race to an already full programme.
The municipal search also found an October programme, but the available records did not contain every location and time needed to plan further detailed visits. For additional activities, use the official programme close to your trip. The two choices above have confirmed dates; the selection does not exhaust the city’s calendar.
Choose your base around the itinerary and organise arrival
To choose accommodation, use the itinerary locations as map references. We suggest beginning your search around Mercado Central if you want the market and Lonja as everyday reference points, or Mercado Colón if you prefer being near day six’s food stop. These are suggestions for geographical fit, without a specific hotel recommendation.
Cabanyal is another possibility for those wanting more time in the neighbourhood and at Cabanyal and Malvarrosa beaches during their stay. In that case, compare journeys to Mercado Central, the art centre and the City of Arts and Sciences before booking. For this itinerary, the choice of base depends on the setting you want to return to most often.
On arrival, Metrovalencia routes 3 and 5 connect the airport to the centre, according to Aena. The station is on the regional flights terminal’s ground floor. Consult operator hours and fares through the official link and check the route to your accommodation’s address; arrival day remains outside the six sightseeing days.
Add your choices to the checklist and budget
After choosing between Museu de les Ciències and Oceanogràfic, and between a boat trip and land-based views at Albufera, turn the programme into a Mala Inteligente checklist. As an organising suggestion, separate what you intend to bring for urban walks, the seafront and the boat trip, adjusting the list to your trip’s weather forecast.
For the budget, gather your accommodation, food, transport, ticket and boat-trip figures. Viajandar’s calculator can help organise an estimate in reais with editable amounts. For Valencia, use your own amounts already expressed in reais: the tool does not provide exchange rates, and reference figures do not represent Spanish prices. The result is a planning estimate, not a quotation.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Mercado Central, Central Bar and Lonja de la Seda | To begin with architecture and market life. | Allow a Monday-to-Saturday morning for the market; check each establishment’s hours separately. |
| Jardí Botànic and a stretch of the Turia | To spend time with plants and then walk outdoors. | You will see only part of the linear park. Covering its approximately nine kilometres would change the day’s pace. |
| Museu de les Ciències, Umbracle and Hemisfèric | To combine interactive science, architecture and a screening. | Your Hemisfèric session shapes the sequence; choose its time before finalising the rest. |
| Oceanogràfic as day three’s main visit | For those more interested in Oceanogràfic. | Replace Museu de les Ciències and leave the Hemisfèric screening optional. |
| El Palmar and a boat trip | To explore Albufera from a village connected with fishing. | Boarding, operation and return depend on the chosen service. Gola de Pujol is a land-based alternative requiring its own transport arrangements. |
| Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero and Mercado Colón | To finish with art and a food stop. | Fit the visit around the centre’s opening hours; the Anselm Kiefer exhibition ends on 25 October 2026. |
Your itinerary, ready to save
Day 1 — Mercado Central and Lonja
Enter Mercado Central in the morning, observe the structure and browse the stalls. Take a break at Central Bar if it is serving, then continue to Lonja de la Seda: Sala de Contratación, Consulado del Mar and Patio de los Naranjos.
Prefer an alternative? If your available day is Sunday, visit Cabanyal and Malvarrosa and move Mercado Central and Lonja to a Monday-to-Saturday morning.Day 2 — Jardí Botànic and Turia
Begin with Jardí Botànic’s collections at Calle Quart, 80. Afterwards, walk along a stretch of Jardín del Turia towards Parque de Cabecera, without committing to cover the entire park.
Prefer an alternative? Replace the independent visit with a guided Jardí Botànic visit if available on your date, and shorten the Turia walk.Day 3 — City of Arts and Sciences
Devote the first part of the day to Museu de les Ciències. Walk around the complex, include Umbracle according to access on your date and finish with your chosen Hemisfèric screening. Adjust the order to the session time.
Prefer an alternative? Choose Oceanogràfic instead of Museu de les Ciències; keep the walk around the complex and add Hemisfèric only if the session fits comfortably.Day 4 — Cabanyal and Malvarrosa
Explore Sant Pere, La Reina and Escalante to observe Cabanyal’s façades. Include the Camins de la Pesca route and continue to Cabanyal beach, following the coast to Malvarrosa according to how much you want to walk.
Prefer an alternative? To reduce walking, explore La Reina and Escalante and stay at Cabanyal beach, leaving Malvarrosa for another occasion.Day 5 — El Palmar and Albufera
Go to El Palmar, explore the village connected with fishing and take a boat trip chosen in advance. Let boarding time shape the visit and confirm your return to Valencia before setting out.
Prefer an alternative? If you prefer contemplating the lagoon from land, replace the boat trip with a stop at Gola de Pujol. Rework transport arrangements because it is a different location from El Palmar.Day 6 — Art and Mercado Colón
Visit Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero and continue to Mercado Colón. We suggest lunch at Habitual on the lower level. For visits by 25 October 2026, include the Anselm Kiefer exhibition.
Prefer an alternative? For a shorter stop at Mercado Colón, choose Horchatería Daniel instead of a meal at Habitual. If the art centre is closed, swap this day with Cabanyal and Malvarrosa. Before you go
- Allow six sightseeing days in addition to arrival and departure; adjust the selection if flights take up part of that time.
- Place Mercado Central on a Monday-to-Saturday morning. The municipal hours consulted are 07:30–15:00, subject to holiday changes.
- Check Central Bar and Habitual service separately; the market’s opening does not guarantee each establishment’s operation.
- Check Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero visiting days. The Anselm Kiefer exhibition ends on 25/10/2026.
- Choose your Hemisfèric session and the main City of Arts and Sciences visit before combining tickets.
- For El Palmar, confirm the EMT route, stop, boat-trip boarding and return transport.
- If choosing dusk at Gola de Pujol, check return travel for the resulting time.
- Do not count on green or flooded rice fields in October: the landscape changes through the agricultural cycle.
- If your stay includes 25/10/2026, consult the half marathon’s route and official information before reorganising the day.
- Turn your choices into a Mala Inteligente checklist. In the calculator, use your own figures in reais as an estimate, without treating Brazilian references as Valencia prices.
Questions to help you decide
Do the six days include arrival and departure?
No. These are six days devoted to sightseeing, with arrival and departure counted separately. This focuses on Valencia and Albufera, rather than being a complete itinerary around Spain. If flights take up part of those six days, remove one combination instead of joining two full days together.
How can I change the order without unravelling the itinerary?
Start by placing Mercado Central on a Monday-to-Saturday morning. Then fit Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero between Tuesday and Sunday, according to that date’s hours. Schedule Cabanyal, Malvarrosa and Albufera around the weather forecast and, for the lagoon, boat operation and return transport.
Is it worth trying to visit every City of Arts and Sciences venue in one day?
For the intended unhurried trip, choose one main visit. We suggest Museu de les Ciències, a walk around the complex and a Hemisfèric session. If you prefer Oceanogràfic, replace the museum and treat the screening as optional.
Can I plan a trip to Albufera using public transport?
The area is served by EMT routes 24 and 25, according to the official source consulted. Check which route serves El Palmar or your desired stop, as well as outward and return times. Mentioning both routes does not mean both serve every point in the outing.
Which visits can I bring forward if it rains?
Within this itinerary, Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero, Lonja de la Seda and Museu de les Ciències are alternatives to swap with outdoor outings. Check opening hours and tickets before changing; travel between attractions still requires a journey.
Until when can I include the Anselm Kiefer exhibition?
The Anselm Kiefer exhibition is confirmed for 29 April–25 October 2026. For a trip after that period, consult the centre’s programme and keep the collection visit in your itinerary without counting on this temporary exhibition.
Which food stops already fit along the route?
Central Bar inside Mercado Central and Habitual on Mercado Colón’s lower level have locations confirmed by the current sources consulted. Mercado Colón also lists Horchatería Daniel. These are suggestions that fit the outings; check menus, opening hours and whether reservations are needed directly with the establishments.
