Tiradentes in three days: churches, museums, good food and Serra de São José
Three full Tiradentes days with Matriz, Rosário, museums, cafés and restaurants, plus Trilha do Carteiro or a cultural route without hiking.

GETTING STARTED
Begin with Matriz and Rosário, visit Casa Padre Toledo and Sant’Ana and finish on Trilha do Carteiro. Prefer no hike? Spread museums across two days and add Museu da Liturgia. Tragaluz, Pacco & Bacco and Marcas Mineiras provide food breaks. These are three full days, excluding arrival and departure.
Who it is for: Couples, friends and travellers interested in history, art, food and nature, with three full Tiradentes days excluding arrival and departure.Three days to enter churches, explore museums and sit down to eat
Over three full days, enter churches, explore museums slowly and reserve worthwhile food breaks in Tiradentes. Begin with Matriz and Rosário, visit Casa Padre Toledo and Museu de Sant’Ana and choose your ending: Trilha do Carteiro in Serra de São José or more historic-centre collections. Arrival and departure are excluded.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday provide a practical fit. For Sunday hiking, put Casa Padre Toledo and Sant’Ana on Saturday. For the cultural version, visit Sant’Ana Saturday and save Casa Padre Toledo and Museu da Liturgia for Sunday according to confirmed hours. Each choice has its own sequence without repeated visits.
Accommodation in the historic centre fits the locations of the attractions and restaurants and makes it easy to return for a rest between outings. Use the Tiradentes page to browse listings and check the exact location before booking. If travelling on other days of the week, note the closures: Matriz, Rosário and Sant’Ana close on Tuesday; Rosário also closes on Monday.
Day 1: begin inside Matriz de Santo Antônio
Begin at Matriz de Santo Antônio, Rua Padre Toledo, 2. The ornate façade and twin towers already invite a stop, but allow time to go inside: gilded altars, paintings and sacred sculptures give substance to the visit. Construction spans the 18th and 19th centuries. Take in both the interior as a whole and its details.
Visit in the morning and leave Rosário until after lunch. This interval lets you explore both churches without rushing between doors. Matriz advertises Wednesday-to-Friday hours, 09:00–17:00; Saturday until 16:30; Sunday and Monday until 14:00. It closes Tuesdays, and services can alter visiting.

After lunch, continue to Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos. The 18th-century church's history connects with Afro-descendant devotion and contributions in Tiradentes. Bring that context to the visit: it adds a different religious and social experience to the outing begun at Matriz.
Use Rua Direita as the axis linking visits and later dinner. Rosário opens Wednesday to Saturday, 09:00–17:00, Sunday 09:00–14:00, closed Monday and Tuesday. If day one is Sunday, do both churches in the morning and lunch afterwards, respecting 14:00 closure.

To close the first day, we suggest dinner at Tragaluz, Rua Direita, 52. Set in a historic house, it presents cooking made from scratch with Minas Gerais ingredients and international influences. The meal keeps you along the same route and makes room to discover another expression of the city: its cuisine.
Between Rosário and dinner, return to accommodation and rest. Regular opening is Wednesday to Monday from 19:00; confirm your evening via reservations. Lunch occurs only on some Saturdays and special occasions, so plan this stop for dinner.
Casa Padre Toledo: painted ceilings and building history
At Museu Casa Padre Toledo, Rua Padre Toledo, 190, the house itself deserves your attention. Observe the painted ceilings and learn about the building’s connection with Inconfidência Mineira. Traditional construction techniques are also part of the interest of this visit, which combines architecture and history.
If hiking Trilha do Carteiro on day three, fit Casa Padre Toledo into day two morning, before lunch and Sant’Ana. Without hiking, save the house for day three morning before Museu da Liturgia. Confirm hours with Campus Cultural UFMG to arrange the order.
The institution lists guided visits by prior arrangement in 2026 as well as visits without an appointment. If you enjoy learning the historical context with someone to guide you, ask about this option before travelling. The photograph shows an archive display; the exhibition during your visit may differ.

Museu de Sant’Ana occupies the former public jail and contains Brazilian images of Saint Anne produced between the 17th and 19th centuries. Angela Gutierrez assembled academic and popular works in varied materials and techniques. Compare representations: following different solutions for one figure is a rewarding way to explore the collection.
The address is Rua Direita, 93, entering via Rua da Cadeia. With hiking planned, come in the afternoon after Casa Padre Toledo and lunch. In the cultural version, begin day two here from 10:00 and leave Marcas Mineiras until after lunch. There is more room to observe without two museums on the same day.
The museum opens Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00–18:00, Sunday 10:00–16:00, closed Tuesday. Ticket sales end 30 minutes earlier. The nighttime photo helps recognise the façade, but collection visits follow these hours.

The former public jail houses Sant’Ana; collection visiting belongs in daytime.

After Sant’Ana, pause at Marcas Mineiras, combining a shop, café and garden. Sit down and change pace after the collection. Confirm service through its official channel before fixing the stop time.
At night, Pacco & Bacco, Rua Direita, 166, provides a second dining experience: contemporary cooking with Minas Gerais references and international dishes, indoor spaces, a covered deck and lounge. Reserve dinner to finish the art-and-history day calmly.
It lists Monday-to-Thursday dinner, 19:00–22:30, Friday and Saturday, 19:00–23:00, Sunday closed. If museums fall on Sunday, Tragaluz dinner is an option with confirmation.
Day 3: allow time for Trilha do Carteiro
On the third day, Trilha do Carteiro changes the scenery of the trip. The route advertised by Uai Trip takes you among the fauna and flora of APA São José and includes a section of historic paving, a viewpoint and poço do Carteiro. After churches, houses and collections, it is an opportunity to bring Serra de São José into your outing.
The operator lists approximately 7.5 km, medium difficulty and an average 4½ hours with mountain guides. Use these to assess suitability. Arrange meeting point, route conditions, food and required equipment beforehand; advertised duration does not guarantee return time.
Devote the morning and part of the afternoon to the walk, according to the departure arranged, and leave the rest of the day for a rest. Avoid scheduling a ticketed visit or a tightly timed reservation immediately afterwards. To continue without hiking, the third day below combines Casa Padre Toledo and Museu da Liturgia.
Without hiking: Casa Padre Toledo and Museu da Liturgia
If choosing the cultural version and visiting Sant’Ana day two, begin day three at Casa Padre Toledo. The house and painted ceilings bring architecture to the centre, while Inconfidência Mineira connections deepen historical context. Reserve the morning according to UFMG-confirmed hours.
After lunch, continue to Museu da Liturgia, Rua Jogo de Bola, 15, in the centre. More than 420 sacred pieces from the 18th–20th centuries join audiovisual installations and multimedia. Objects and worship practices complement the Saint Anne representations seen the day before.
Confirm both museums' hours before finalising. If Liturgia is available morning and Casa Padre Toledo afternoon, reverse them with lunch between. Day three then has two different outings without repeating previous visits.
On 6–8 November 2026, fit Roupa Nova and Blitz into Saturday
If your three days are 6–8 November 2026, music can fit: Planeta Tiradentes is confirmed Saturday 7 November 2026 at Santíssimo Resort with Roupa Nova and Blitz. Fans should reserve the rest of Saturday for the event.
With hiking planned, do Casa Padre Toledo and Sant’Ana Saturday morning and early afternoon if confirmed hours permit. In the cultural version, keep only Sant’Ana Saturday and Casa Padre Toledo and Liturgia Sunday. The event replaces the long Marcas Mineiras pause and scheduled Saturday dinner.
Gates open at 16:00; this is announced entry time, not confirmed performance start. Tickets exclude accommodation. The calendar was checked on 25 October 2026; for other dates consult venue programmes.
Prepare arrival, luggage and budget for the full stay
Plan arrival to be settled before sightseeing day one. Sant’Ana guidance lists road access via BR-040 from Belo Horizonte and BR-040/BR-265 via Barbacena from Rio de Janeiro. Check for your origin; for buses, verify lines and times directly with the company.
In Mala Inteligente, enter the total stay including arrival and departure, climate conditions and traveller profiles. Turn the result into a checklist. For Trilha do Carteiro, check walking shoes, sun protection, a hat and operator-requested equipment.
For your budget, use the Travel Cost Calculator as a starting point in reais, selecting destination, days, people and travel style. It presents reference figures for accommodation, meals and transport with a 15% margin. Compare the estimate with prices checked directly and separately check the costs of museums, hiking and any concert. The result is an initial estimate, not a quotation.
