GETTING STARTED

For this itinerary, start by comparing Tambaú and the part of Cabo Branco near Busto de Tamandaré; assess Manaíra by address and total cost. The four days group the waterfronts, Historic Centre, Estação–lighthouse–Seixas and Museu José Lins do Rego–Manaíra, excluding arrival and departure.

Who it is for: First-time visitors to João Pessoa who want accommodation that suits their outings, control over spending and four full days combining beach, heritage and culture, excluding arrival and departure.

Accommodation that suits your outings

For this itinerary, I suggest starting your search in Tambaú and the section of Cabo Branco near Busto de Tamandaré. You can combine beach time, a walk between the two waterfronts and handicrafts in one outing. Manaíra deserves comparison too: its promenade and a local food break are part of day four.

The decisive detail is the address. Two properties advertised in the same neighbourhood can require different journeys to the places you want to see. Before booking, put the accommodation, Tambaú market and Busto de Tamandaré on the map; for Manaíra, check access to the promenade too.

None of the three neighbourhoods guarantees savings. Compare the cost of the whole stay with the transport needed, using the same dates and booking conditions. For four days, the suggestion is a single base: changing accommodation between these areas would add packing and travel to the itinerary.

  • Tambaú: prioritise an address convenient for the beach, market and Busto de Tamandaré.
  • Cabo Branco: to combine both waterfronts, first compare accommodation near the bust.
  • Manaíra: consider this neighbourhood if you want its promenade and dining, checking transport for other outings.

Reach your accommodation with the whole route accounted for

The four days below are full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. On arrival, Aena lists taxis on the ground floor, a stop for intercity route 5601 outside the terminal’s south wing, and ride-hailing pickup at the end of that wing, beyond the van stop.

Before choosing the bus for possible savings, check a departure that fits your flight and the remaining route to your accommodation. The timetable consulted covers weekdays and Saturdays, with times subject to change; it does not confirm Sunday operation or a direct journey to the waterfront.

During your stay, check the route between your address and the Historic Centre or Museu José Lins do Rego. The city government presents Cittamobi as a tool for lines, stops, routes and scheduled times. Compare connections and final walking distances with the group’s total taxi or ride-hailing cost, without assuming one mode is always better.

Day 1: Tambaú and Cabo Branco on the same walk

Start at Tambaú Beach and use this first day to get to know the waterfront that may become part of your routine. The handicraft market is a stop for looking at pieces and calmly deciding whether any purchase fits your budget; confirm its opening arrangements before planning your visit.

Then follow the waterfront to Busto de Tamandaré and continue along Cabo Branco’s palm-lined promenade. This combination lets you discover both beaches without travelling to another area in the middle of the day. Choose your turning point according to your accommodation and how far you want to walk.

The suggestion is to leave time to stay on the beach, walk and pause for food, rather than turning the waterfront into a rushed checklist. If you are staying in Cabo Branco, reverse the direction and finish in Tambaú. The sources do not establish current swimming conditions; check those close to your visit.

Day 2 morning: São Francisco and Casa da Pólvora

Devote the second day to the Historic Centre, starting at Centro Cultural São Francisco on Ladeira São Francisco. The Baroque complex offers guided or self-guided visits and exhibitions: it is worth going inside to discover the heritage before continuing through the surrounding streets.

There is an admission fee for regular visits. Consult the website for specific conditions for free and half-price admission, without assuming an automatic discount. The institution closes on Mondays; its page lists Tuesday 09:30–17:00, Wednesday to Saturday 09:00–17:00, with a 12:30–13:30 break on those days, and Sunday 09:00–15:00. The ticket office closes half an hour earlier.

Next, visit Casa da Pólvora, also on Ladeira São Francisco. It houses Museu Fotográfico Walfredo Rodrigues and has free admission documented by the city government. This pairing adds another perspective on the city without a new transport journey. Reconfirm hours, as the municipal reference is from February 2026.

Day 2 afternoon: Praça Antenor Navarro and Hotel Globo

Take a lunch break in the centre and continue to Praça Antenor Navarro. Then head to Hotel Globo on Largo de São Frei Pedro Gonçalves. The sequence combines historic spaces with a visit to the former hotel, which operates as a cultural centre with views over the Sanhauá River.

Here, Hotel Globo is an attraction, rather than an accommodation recommendation. Plan your visit within confirmed hours; the collection’s night photograph does not establish evening opening, and the source’s mention of the Sol Maior project does not confirm a performance on your travel date.

If you want more room for exhibitions, Casarão 34 on Praça Dom Adauto is an alternative with documented free admission. Confirm opening arrangements and use it to replace a stop if you prefer a less packed day. The practical gain is keeping the whole outing in the centre, without returning to the beach and back again.

Day 3: culture and scenery between Estação and Seixas

On day three, bring Estação Cabo Branco, Farol do Cabo Branco and Seixas Beach together in one outing. Estação, in Altiplano, adds a cultural stop to a day focused on scenery and has documented free admission. Confirm hours before deciding the order: the official information found differs.

Then visit Farol do Cabo Branco and head to Seixas Beach, leaving time to enjoy the landscape without rushing to another city area. Keep the distinction in mind: the easternmost-point reference is Ponta do Seixas, rather than the lighthouse.

Plan transport between all three stops and back to your accommodation, plus a food break while out. Grouping these places avoids separate trips to each one, but does not mean the whole route should be walked.

If Estação is closed, keep the lighthouse and Seixas. Museu José Lins do Rego is already planned for day four and preserves the trip’s cultural element without an immediate detour to Tambauzinho.

Day 4: José Lins do Rego, lunch and Manaíra’s waterfront

Begin day four at Museu José Lins do Rego, which brings together books, furniture, photographs, documents and objects associated with the writer. Its collection offers a different experience from heritage visits and an indoor outing that can also fit a rainy day.

The museum is in Espaço Cultural José Lins do Rego, Avenida Abdias Gomes de Almeida, 800, Tambauzinho, with access via the basement at ramps 3 and 4. Note the name: Tambauzinho and Tambaú are different neighbourhoods. The page lists Monday to Friday 08:00–12:00 and 13:00–17:00; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 10:00–16:00. It does not state free admission.

Then take transport to Manaíra. My lunch suggestion is NAU Manaíra at Rua Lupércio Branco, 130: the location lets you continue the day in the neighbourhood, and it specialises in fish and seafood, making it an appealing lunch stop. The branch page lists lunch from 12:00 to 15:30; check the menu and service for your date.

NAU is not presented as a promise of a budget meal. Decide on the stop after comparing its menu with your food allowance. Finish with a walk along Manaíra’s promenade, without adding another distant attraction at the end of the day.

Adjust the order to opening days and events

You can change the four days’ order without breaking up the combinations. If the centre day falls on a Monday, swap it with Tambaú and Cabo Branco to preserve the visit inside São Francisco. If it rains on the beach day, bring Museu José Lins do Rego forward and move the waterfront walk to the freed-up day.

The programme search conducted on 6 October 2026 through municipal and Funesc channels was inconclusive. No temporary event is therefore included as a confirmed commitment. That does not mean there is no programme: open official channels close to the trip and check date, location and admission conditions.

If you find a confirmed activity, fit it into the day for the same area. A programme at Espaço Cultural pairs with Museu José Lins do Rego; an activity in the centre can join the São Francisco and Hotel Globo day, replacing a stop if needed.

Control spending before choosing the lowest nightly rate

Savings in this itinerary come from grouping visits and comparing total costs. Returning to your accommodation between São Francisco and Hotel Globo, or visiting the lighthouse and Seixas on separate days, may add avoidable journeys. Choosing between a bus and a hired ride depends on the route, connections and how many people share the expense.

In Viajandar’s Travel Cost Calculator, enter destination, total duration, number of people and travel style. The tool provides an estimate in reais, with reference figures for accommodation, food, transport and a 15% buffer.

Use the result as a starting point and compare it with figures researched for your dates, adding admission and other planned expenses. It is an illustrative estimate, rather than a price quote; the calculator does not replace comparing actual bookings and routes.

  • Compare the whole stay in all three areas, including costs and conditions stated in the booking.
  • Add airport transfers and journeys to the Historic Centre, Seixas and Tambauzinho.
  • Allow money for São Francisco and check any charge at Museu José Lins do Rego.
  • Use free visits to Casa da Pólvora, Casarão 34 and Estação Cabo Branco to balance your cultural selection.

Turn the itinerary into a booking and checklist

With your base chosen and days arranged, open Mala Inteligente, select Heat/Beach and enter total trip duration and travellers. Include arrival and departure in that total even if those days have no outings in the itinerary.

Use the generated list as a checklist and review it with both trip experiences in mind: waterfront time and cultural visits involving walking. The climate selection guides packing but is not a weather forecast.

To keep searching, Viajandar’s João Pessoa page brings together attractions, municipal information and access to listed accommodation and services. Return to the neighbourhood comparison with the addresses of options you find: that way, your booking follows the outings you want to make.

Which option suits you?

OptionA good fit if…What to consider
TambaúYou want to combine the beach, handicraft market and walks to Busto de Tamandaré.This is the first area I would compare for this itinerary. You will still travel to the Historic Centre, Tambauzinho and Seixas; check the accommodation’s address, rather than just its advertised neighbourhood.
Cabo Branco, near Busto de TamandaréYou prefer to include Cabo Branco’s promenade in your daily routine while staying close to Tambaú’s outings. The fit depends on the section you choose. Accommodation farther from the bust changes the walk needed to reach the market and may add transport.
ManaíraYou intend to enjoy Manaíra’s promenade and have a meal in the neighbourhood alongside cultural outings.Compare any accommodation savings with journeys to Tambaú and Cabo Branco. The neighbourhood alone does not establish lower room rates.

Your itinerary, ready to save

Day 1 — Tambaú and Cabo Branco

Start at Tambaú Beach, allow time for the handicraft market when it is open and follow the waterfront to Busto de Tamandaré. Continue along Cabo Branco’s promenade to a turning point that suits your accommodation. The idea is to discover both waterfronts on one outing, without adding the city centre.

Prefer an alternative? If it rains, bring forward Museu José Lins do Rego in Tambauzinho and save Tambaú and Cabo Branco for the day originally assigned to the museum. Walk in Manaíra only if weather allows.

Day 2 — Historic Centre

Visit Centro Cultural São Francisco in the morning and continue to Casa da Pólvora, also on Ladeira São Francisco. Take a lunch break in the centre before continuing to Praça Antenor Navarro and Hotel Globo on Largo de São Frei Pedro Gonçalves. Check hours to fit the interiors in without returning to the waterfront midway.

Prefer an alternative? If it falls on a Monday, swap the whole day with Tambaú and Cabo Branco. To replace an unavailable cultural visit en route, consider Casarão 34 on Praça Dom Adauto after confirming opening arrangements.

Day 3 — Estação Cabo Branco, lighthouse and Seixas

Organise one outing to visit Estação Cabo Branco, continue to Farol do Cabo Branco and finish at Seixas Beach. Adjust the order to Estação’s confirmed hours and plan transport between stops and back. Allow time to eat during the outing, without scheduling an intermediate return to your accommodation.

Prefer an alternative? If Estação is closed, keep the lighthouse and Seixas Beach, with more time for the scenery. Museu José Lins do Rego on day 4 preserves a cultural experience without requiring a detour between areas that day.

Day 4 — Museu José Lins do Rego and Manaíra

Discover Museu José Lins do Rego in Espaço Cultural, Tambauzinho. Then take transport to Manaíra. The lunch suggestion is NAU Manaíra at Rua Lupércio Branco, 130, if the menu fits your budget; the page consulted lists lunch from 12:00 to 15:30. Finish with a walk along Manaíra’s promenade.

Prefer an alternative? If you prefer to prioritise heritage, replace the museum morning with Casarão 34, with opening confirmed, then take transport to Manaíra. If a rain swap has already moved the museum to day 1, use this day for Tambaú and Cabo Branco.

Before you go

  • Count four full sightseeing days; add arrival and departure when calculating total trip duration and accommodation nights.
  • Compare exact accommodation addresses with Busto de Tamandaré, Tambaú’s market or Manaíra’s promenade, according to your priorities.
  • Add accommodation, transfers, city transport, food and admission before choosing the lowest nightly rate.
  • Check route 5601 operation with Aena for your flight date and time. The timetable consulted does not confirm Sunday service or a direct route to your accommodation.
  • Check routes, connections and final walks for the Historic Centre and Tambauzinho; scheduled times do not guarantee punctuality.
  • Keep São Francisco off Monday and note the visiting break and early ticket-office closure.
  • Confirm Casa da Pólvora, Hotel Globo, Casarão 34 and Estação Cabo Branco hours before ordering the visits.
  • Check any charge at Museu José Lins do Rego; the page consulted does not state free admission.
  • Open the menu and confirm NAU Manaíra’s service before adding the meal to your budget.
  • Check JP Cultura and Funesc close to your trip; the search on 6 October 2026 did not confirm a relevant event.
  • Sources and archival photographs do not establish current swimming conditions. Check updated information before entering the sea.
  • In Mala Inteligente and the calculator, use the total trip length, including arrival and departure.

Questions to help you decide

Which neighbourhood should I choose for a first trip to João Pessoa?

For this itinerary, start by comparing Tambaú and the part of Cabo Branco near Busto de Tamandaré. They suit beach time and walks between the two waterfronts. Manaíra works too, especially if the accommodation makes sense in your total budget and you want to enjoy the neighbourhood.

Tambaú, Cabo Branco or Manaíra: which costs less?

The evidence does not establish a winner on price. Compare accommodation for the same dates and conditions, add transfers and estimate the itinerary’s journeys. A lower nightly rate may lose its advantage if you need more rides.

What fits into the four days?

These are four full sightseeing days for the waterfronts, the Historic Centre, Estação Cabo Branco with the lighthouse and Seixas, and Museu José Lins do Rego. Arrival and departure are excluded. This is a selection of the city, without attempting to cover Paraíba’s entire coast.

Which cultural attractions have documented free admission?

Free visits are documented for Casa da Pólvora, Casarão 34 and Estação Cabo Branco. Centro Cultural São Francisco charges for regular visits, with specific conditions for free and half-price admission. The Museu José Lins do Rego page consulted does not state that admission is free.

Can I organise this itinerary without hiring a car?

Yes, using walks along your chosen waterfront sections and transport between areas. Check routes, connections and the final walk before choosing between buses, taxis and ride-hailing. At the airport, the existence of route 5601 does not establish a direct connection to your accommodation.

How should I adapt the itinerary if one day falls on a Monday?

Move Centro Cultural São Francisco to another day, as it closes on Mondays. Use that day for Tambaú and Cabo Branco or Museu José Lins do Rego, whose official page lists Monday opening.

Does the itinerary include an event with a fixed date?

No temporary event is included as confirmed. The official programme search on 6 October 2026 was inconclusive; that does not mean the city has no events. Check JP Cultura and Funesc close to your trip.
