GETTING STARTED

Start in Gamla Stan, combine Vasa and Nordiska, devote a day to Skansen and alternate art, viewpoints and Drottningholm with food and rest breaks. Tuesday to Sunday suits the November 2026 calendar, with six full sightseeing days excluding arrival and departure.

Who it is for: Brazilian first-time visitors to Stockholm wanting history, art, Swedish food and walks, using public transport, a practical base and breaks to rest.

Six full days with room to enjoy every stop

You can combine the Vasa ship, old town, art and a palace outside the centre without spending six days rushing. The suggestion is to begin in Gamla Stan, devote two days to different experiences on Djurgården and alternate the following outings between historic halls, gardens and photography. Breaks fit along the way: a bistro inside the Nobel museum, Swedish food at Skansen and lunch alongside the Drottningholm outing.

This itinerary uses six full days, excluding arrival and departure. It can form the Stockholm stage of a longer trip without attempting to cover everything in the city. Tuesday to Sunday is a useful fit: it puts Moderna Museet on Friday and Drottningholm on Saturday. In November 2026, that matches the palace’s published calendar.

You can change the order, but begin with the least flexible commitments: Drottningholm opening and the Stadshuset guided tour. Then adjust Skansen and Monteliusvägen to the weather. Gentler final afternoons and evenings without commitments are part of the outing, rather than gaps that need filling.

A Norrmalm base and journeys without a car

For this first trip, my suggested base is Norrmalm near Stockholm Central and T-Centralen. The area concentrates these connections, plus restaurants and cultural venues near Sergels Torg. The advantage for this itinerary is practical: arriving with luggage, heading to islands and museums, and returning to accommodation in the middle of the day. When choosing your room, separately check the comfort conditions that matter to you.

If arriving through Arlanda, compare where each service leaves you with the accommodation’s address. Arlanda Express uses Arlanda South and North; SL commuter trains use Arlanda Central in SkyCity. At the latter station there is an access charge, which may be included in the ticket. Check the total and conditions of your chosen option before buying.

Within the city, SL brings together the metro, buses, commuter trains, trams and certain ferry routes. There are single tickets and passes for 24 hours, 72 hours and seven days. For six sightseeing days, compare the seven-day pass with your planned journeys, including arrival and departure days if they fall within its validity. Do not automatically count tourist boats or airport transport as covered.

Day 1: Gamla Stan, Nobel and a bistro break

Begin at Stortorget, Gamla Stan’s central square and Stockholm’s oldest, mentioned in 1420. Notice the colourful façades on the west side and use the square as a reference for walking through the old town’s streets. The idea for this first morning is simple: explore the surroundings without fitting in several timed admissions.

Then enter the Nobel Prize Museum in the former stock exchange building at Stortorget 2. The exhibitions introduce the Nobel world, and the guided tour is included in admission; there is also a mobile audio guide. In the consultation used for this itinerary, standard tickets were sold at reception. Check guidance for your date before going.

Have lunch or a fika, the coffee break, at Bistro Nobel inside the museum. Alongside light meals, it has chairs signed by laureates: a detail that keeps the break connected to the visit. Opening follows the museum, with its own conditions during Friday evening programmes. Afterwards, choose between another Gamla Stan walk and returning to rest; the first day has already offered a square, historic streets and a museum.

Day 2: the Vasa ship and Nordic life on Djurgården

Devote the morning on Djurgården to Vasa. The ship is the centre of the visit, but also explore the exhibitions about its construction, sinking and recovery after 333 years. First observe the whole, then the hull and sculpture details: this suggested route helps link the object with the stories presented by the museum. Take small luggage; wheeled suitcases and large items are not allowed.

Have lunch at Vasa Museum Restaurant before continuing. For September to May, the consulted page lists hot meals until 15:00, although the restaurant closes later: 16:30, extended to 19:00 on Wednesdays. Holiday exceptions apply. Pausing here avoids turning the interval between museums into another outing.

In the afternoon, cross to Nordiska museet at Djurgårdsvägen 6–16, opposite Vasa. The subject changes from the ship to life in Sweden and the Nordic countries since the 16th century. Use the digital guide to shape the visit according to your interests. If Vasa has already filled your day, leave Nordiska for tomorrow instead of Skansen: the museums combine by location but do not need to become a marathon.

Day 3: historic buildings and Swedish food at Skansen

Return to Djurgården for a different experience: Skansen brings together historic buildings, traditions and Nordic wildlife in an open-air museum. Open the daily calendar before leaving and organise the order by the houses receiving visitors. Giving it a day of its own avoids competition with Vasa and allows a walk with breaks.

Include Seglora church in the route. Built between 1729 and 1732 in Västergötland, it was reassembled at Skansen between 1916 and 1918. The timber structure and 18th-century interior paintings help explain the preservation of buildings brought from other regions. Interior access depends on the calendar.

For lunch, the suggestion is Stora Gungan Tavern in the historic urban area above the escalator. The business states that it serves traditional Swedish food and has indoor and outdoor tables; in autumn, the chance to sit inside is useful for the break. Then return to the buildings that interest you most and head back without an evening commitment. In persistent rain, use Nordiska as a substitute if you have not yet visited; if you have, bring Moderna Museet forward and try Skansen on Friday, according to hours.

Day 4: Stadshuset’s halls and Skeppsholmen’s art

Begin Friday at Stadshuset, Stockholm’s City Hall. To explore the interior, you must join a guided tour. The route includes Blue Hall, Golden Hall, Council Chamber and Gallery of the Prince; the latter has Saturday restrictions. Tours in Swedish and English last approximately 45 minutes, and online tickets are released one week in advance. Choose an available time before building the rest of the day.

Then continue to Skeppsholmen and combine an island walk with Moderna Museet, whose main entrance is at Exercisplan 4. Moving from the City Hall’s rooms to modern and contemporary art gives the day variety. Take a break between visits instead of treating the journey as sufficient rest.

There are two ways to fit in the museum. The first is to visit in the afternoon and leave the evening free. The second is to return to accommodation to rest and enter from 18:00 to 20:00, Friday’s free period listed in the consultation. Free entry does not apply all Friday. If changing days, remember that Moderna lists Monday closure.

Day 5: Drottningholm, with palace, lunch and gardens

Reserve Saturday for leaving the central circuit and exploring Drottningholm on Lovön island in Ekerö municipality. In autumn, plan the journey by metro to Brommaplan and bus to Drottningholm, using Drottningholms Slott as the journey planner destination. The administration describes boats from Stadshuskajen as a summer service, so do not base this outing on them.

Begin with palace areas open to visitors. Part of the building is the king and queen’s private residence, and access to the ensemble does not mean admission to every space. For November 2026, the consulted calendar lists opening 10:00–16:00 on the 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th. In other periods, check the exact date; the park can be visited throughout the year.

Take a break at Karamellan, in the white building beside the water at the visitor centre. The palace administration describes Swedish home cooking, coffee, pastries and sandwiches, and the restaurant website lets you check lunch, hours and reservations. The suggestion is to have lunch after the interior and walk in the park afterwards, without adding another attraction on return.

Do not count on entry to the Chinese Pavilion or theatre without checking their specific calendars. If you need to move the outing, first check Sunday opening and swap with Monteliusvägen and Fotografiska. Visiting only the park is also possible but changes the experience: decide this before travelling.

Day 6: Monteliusvägen views and Fotografiska exhibitions

Begin Sunday in Södermalm on the Monteliusvägen path. It is approximately 500 metres with views of Lake Mälaren, Stadshuset and Riddarholmen. This is a good chance to recognise the City Hall you visited two days earlier in the landscape. Allow time to stop; this length refers to the scenic path, not the day’s complete journey.

Then continue to Fotografiska at Stadsgårdshamnen 22 for lunch and photography, art and culture exhibitions. At consultation, weekend lunch was listed from 11:00 to 16:00 and the museum daily from 10:00 to 23:00. The dinner restaurant opens Wednesday to Saturday, so the suggested Sunday combination is lunch and a visit.

Check access guidance before leaving: the route indicated from Slussen includes around 800 metres on foot through a temporary passage. If the morning is rainy, reverse the order, beginning with exhibitions and lunch at Fotografiska. Monteliusvägen can wait for an improvement in the weather without turning the final day into a race to complete the list.

In November 2026, one evening can be for cinema

If your trip falls between 11 and 22 November 2026, Stockholm International Film Festival complements this cultural itinerary. The official tourism page confirms screenings, premieres and conversations with filmmakers and actors. My suggestion is to add a screening on a previously free evening instead of stacking cinema and the evening Moderna visit on the same Friday.

The consulted calendar supports the festival dates but does not allow a particular film, cinema or time to be recommended here. Before buying, choose from the published programme and check language and subtitles. For planning the week, 14 and 21 November 2026 are Saturdays within the festival period and also appear in Drottningholm’s opening calendar.

What to organise before finalising the trip

To turn the itinerary into a trip, confirm Drottningholm and the Stadshuset guided tour first. Then check museum and meal times, especially Vasa lunch and Fotografiska’s Sunday service. These details guide the sequence without requiring every minute to be reserved.

Keep the evenings after Vasa, Skansen and Drottningholm free as a rest suggestion. If you decide to include the film festival or Moderna in the evening, choose the outing that interests you most and preserve the other breaks. In the related links, Mala Inteligente helps organise what to take, and the calculator lets you assemble an illustrative estimate in reais before purchasing.

  • Separate accommodation, urban transport, airport connection, admissions, meals and any festival screening in the budget.
  • Use Mala Inteligente to build a checklist around walks in Skansen, Drottningholm and Monteliusvägen and indoor visits.
  • In Viajandar’s calculator, fill editable amounts in reais with your own estimates. It supplies neither exchange rates nor international quotations, and the reference figures do not represent Swedish prices.

Which option suits you?

OptionA good fit if…What to consider
Stay in Norrmalm near Stockholm Central and T-CentralenYou want easier arrival with luggage and journeys throughout the six days. The recommendation is based on connections with the itinerary; a central location alone does not guarantee a quiet or comfortable room.
Combine Vasa and Nordiska on the second dayYou enjoy comparing maritime history and Nordic everyday life and accept two indoor visits in a day.Their proximity helps, but both museums have substantial content. Take a lunch break between them.
Visit Nordiska on the third day instead of SkansenYou prefer one museum a day or encounter persistent rain. The pace becomes gentler, but the outdoor historic buildings and Seglora church leave this selection.
Enter Moderna Museet during Friday’s free period, 18:00–20:00Your Friday allows an afternoon rest and an early evening outing. The window is shorter. An afternoon visit allows a different pace, subject to the ticket and hours for your date.
Reserve Saturday for the palaceYou want to explore Drottningholm’s interior in November 2026.The interior calendar limits changes of day; the park can be visited throughout the year.
Include a Stockholm International Film Festival screeningYou will be in the city between 11 and 22 November 2026 and want to add cinema to the trip.Choose a screening according to the programme, language and subtitles, keeping a rest evening when needed.

Your itinerary, ready to save

Day 1 — Tuesday: Gamla Stan

Begin at Stortorget, walk Gamla Stan’s streets and enter the Nobel Prize Museum. Take a lunch or fika break at Bistro Nobel and finish sightseeing early, with free time at your accommodation.

Prefer an alternative? After a tiring arrival the day before, begin with the Nobel Prize Museum and Bistro Nobel; leave Stortorget and a short Gamla Stan walk for afterwards.

Day 2 — Wednesday: Vasa and Nordiska

Go to Djurgården to visit the Vasa ship and its exhibitions in the morning. Have lunch at Vasa Museum Restaurant before hot meal service ends and cross to Nordiska in the afternoon.

Prefer an alternative? Stay only at Vasa and its restaurant. Move Nordiska to the third day, replacing Skansen, if you prefer exploring one visit in greater depth each day.

Day 3 — Thursday: Skansen

Use Skansen’s daily calendar to organise the historic buildings and include Seglora church when accessible. Have lunch at Stora Gungan and explore another part of the open-air museum before returning to rest.

Prefer an alternative? In persistent rain, visit Nordiska if you left it for today. If you have already visited, bring Moderna Museet forward and leave Skansen for Friday afternoon after checking the houses’ calendar.

Day 4 — Friday: Stadshuset and Skeppsholmen

Book a morning guided Stadshuset visit. Then continue for a Skeppsholmen walk and Moderna Museet, leaving a break between the two visits.

Prefer an alternative? Visit Stadshuset in the morning, rest at your accommodation in the afternoon and visit Moderna Museet from 18:00 to 20:00, Friday’s free period stated in the consultation.

Day 5 — Saturday: Drottningholm

Take the metro to Brommaplan and continue by bus to Drottningholm. Explore palace areas open to visitors, have lunch at Karamellan and walk through the park before returning to Stockholm.

Prefer an alternative? If your chosen Saturday has no admission available, check Sunday and swap Drottningholm with Monteliusvägen and Fotografiska. Without an interior visit, Drottningholm’s park remains a possible outing with a different focus.

Day 6 — Sunday: Monteliusvägen and Fotografiska

Begin on the Monteliusvägen scenic path in Södermalm. Then continue to Fotografiska for weekend lunch and exhibitions, ending sightseeing without a second timed attraction.

Prefer an alternative? If the morning is rainy, begin at Fotografiska, have lunch there and leave Monteliusvägen for afterwards if the weather improves.

Before you go

  • Set aside six full sightseeing days; allow additional days for arrival and departure.
  • If travelling in November 2026, check Drottningholm before fixing the sequence: the consulted calendar lists interior opening on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29, 10:00–16:00.
  • Check Stadshuset tours a week before, when online tickets are released. A guide is required for the interior.
  • Check Skansen’s daily building calendar and access to Seglora church; general museum opening does not guarantee every interior.
  • Leave wheeled suitcases and large items at accommodation before Vasa, where they are prohibited.
  • At Vasa’s restaurant, distinguish the dining room’s closing time from the end of hot meals, stated as 15:00 for September to May with holiday exceptions.
  • Check Stora Gungan and Karamellan service for your date, especially if swapping itinerary days.
  • For Fotografiska on Sunday, plan weekend lunch; its dinner restaurant lists Wednesday-to-Saturday opening.
  • Check Fotografiska access: consulted guidance from Slussen includes around 800 metres on foot via a temporary passage.
  • Compare SL tickets and check the Arlanda connection separately, including any Arlanda Central station access charge.
  • For cinema between 11 and 22 November 2026, confirm the session, venue, language, subtitles and ticket in the festival programme.
  • Turn walks and indoor visits into a checklist in Mala Inteligente. In the calculator, use editable figures in reais and your own estimates, without treating references as Swedish prices or exchange-rate quotations.

Questions to help you decide

Do the six days include flights?

These are six full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. The selection combines the visits described with rest, rather than setting a compulsory ideal duration or trying to exhaust Stockholm.

Can I follow this itinerary without a car?

Yes. SL brings together metro, buses, commuter trains, trams and certain ferry routes. For Drottningholm, official guidance is metro to Brommaplan and bus to the palace. Check each journey; tourist boats and airport connections should not automatically be considered included in the pass.

Are Vasa and Nordiska rushed in one day?

They stand opposite one another, which favours combining them. The suggestion is Vasa in the morning, lunch at its restaurant and Nordiska afterwards. If you enjoy exploring more slowly, move Nordiska to the third day, replacing Skansen.

Does Drottningholm open daily in autumn?

Not according to the calendar consulted for November 2026: the interior opens on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 November, 10:00–16:00. The park can be visited throughout the year. For another month or year, check the specific calendar.

How can I adapt outings if it rains?

Nordiska is the covered alternative to Skansen. On the final day, begin with Fotografiska’s exhibitions and leave Monteliusvägen for better weather. When moving Drottningholm, first check interior opening.

Where can I try Swedish food without creating another journey?

Stora Gungan inside Skansen states that it serves traditional Swedish food. At Drottningholm, Karamellan offers Swedish home cooking plus coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Consult service for your date without counting on a particular dish.

Which transport pass should I choose for six days?

Compare the seven-day pass with single journeys and combinations of shorter passes. The network also offers 24- and 72-hour options. Add up the journeys you plan and check validity conditions and coverage before buying.
