Centro or Enseada: Where to Stay in São Francisco do Sul and What to Do in Three Days
Choose Centro or Enseada as your São Francisco do Sul base and combine historic buildings, meals, beaches and Acaraí across three full days.

GETTING STARTED
Enseada is our suggested base for a day in the Historic Centre, another between Enseada and Prainha and a third at Acaraí and Praia Grande. Prefer Centro to prioritise historic buildings and Babitonga. These are three full days, excluding arrival and departure; compare accommodation and transport together before booking.
Who it is for: Travellers wanting heritage, beach and nature across three full days, excluding arrival and departure, choosing accommodation to reduce journeys.Centro or Enseada? Choose your base by what you want to do
For this combination of historic buildings, beaches and Acaraí, our suggestion is to stay in Enseada and keep the same accommodation. These are three full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure: one devoted to Centro, another to Enseada and Prainha, and the third to Acaraí and Praia Grande. The selection introduces different São Francisco do Sul landscapes with time to enjoy them.
Choose Centro to allow more time for walks beside Babitonga and historic façades. Enseada better matches this itinerary's beach priority, but the exact address still matters: being in the neighbourhood does not mean being close to every outing.
Compare the stay's price with required transport, including outward and return journeys. No quotes establish either area as cheaper. For just three sightseeing days, changing accommodation must justify repacking and new check-in schedules. Viajandar's city page helps explore listed accommodation and services; confirm conditions directly with each business.
Day 1: walk among historic buildings, Babitonga and the main church
Begin day one among the historic buildings beside Babitonga Bay. Walk looking at both façades and water: their proximity is part of the outing's appeal. The Marcantoni and Görresen family mansions, identified by the local tourism portal, provide references for viewing the ensemble from outside.
Then continue to Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça, the main church, and fit the Municipal Market into the same walk. This combines three interests without arranging a series of long visits: bay scenery, historic houses and buildings marking Centro. Check opening for entry to the church and Market.
This is the itinerary's most flexible day. Walk at your pace, pausing to observe and photograph, and leave dinner in Paulas as a possible addition. You do not need to fill the entire afternoon to enjoy Centro properly.

At the Municipal Market, stop in front of the façade. The collection record highlights three arched openings, white ornamentation and green railings: details to observe carefully during the heritage outing. If the interior is receiving visitors, include entry; for a meal, prefer a stop whose service has been checked.
One option for ending the day is Convés at Rua Francisco Machado de Souza, 1135, in Paulas. Its own page states that it is open to the public, with Babitonga views and à la carte service, including seafood and set meals. This choice extends your time by the bay over a meal. Published dinner hours are 19:00–23:00 daily; reconfirm for your date, especially on public holidays, and include transport to Paulas in your budget.
To finish earlier, replace dinner with lunch at Convés itself, published as 12:00–15:00. You can explore Centro in the morning and continue to the meal without reserving a second evening outing.
Be careful with an old guide: the National Sea Museum interior was left out of this sequence. TJSC reported on 2 September 2026 that visits remained prohibited, and research on 19 October 2026 found no later reopening confirmation.

On day two, leave the morning for Praia da Enseada. The suggestion is straightforward and pleasant: walk the waterfront, choose where to remain on the beach and allow time before thinking about the next address. Food stays in the area, helping you enjoy the morning without interrupting it with a trip elsewhere in the city.
For lunch, consider Maruju’s at Avenida Atlântica, 1902. Its own website lists à la carte service, fish and seafood specialities and air conditioning. It is a practical fit between the Enseada morning and Prainha afternoon.
Confirm service and request the current menu through the official contact before setting out. This helps fit the meal into the budget; no price or particular dish is verified or guaranteed for your travel date.

In Enseada, combine the beach morning with a lunch break in the same area.

After lunch, head to Prainha for a different coastal composition. In the collection image, the sea has waves and bands of foam, accompanied by rocks and a vegetated headland. This meeting of water, stone and greenery gives the visit its own purpose: allow the afternoon for a pause on the sand and landscape viewing without any obligation to enter the sea.
The suggested outing is on the beach; the photograph's elevated framing is not a viewpoint recommended by this itinerary. For swimming, assess local conditions that day.
Want more time in one place? Remain at Praia da Enseada after Maruju’s and remove Prainha from the sequence. It is useful for a quieter afternoon or fitting the outing around bus timetables.

Reserve day three's morning for Trilha Mirante do Rio Acaraí. According to IMA, it is 700 m to the natural viewpoint and 1.4 km in total, through restinga habitats. Dunes, river and mangroves join the outing, adding an experience different from urban walking and time on beaches.
The indicated access starts in Praia Grande neighbourhood along Avenida das Dunas, continuing 740 m beyond the end of asphalt. Arrange arrival at that point before travelling. The official page lets you select a date and check spaces; also confirm visiting conditions and any charges, because free admission was not established.
After the trail, continue to Praia Grande and save the afternoon for the beach. The combination uses access through the same neighbourhood and keeps the day devoted to nature without another distant commitment. If Acaraí has no spaces and weather is suitable, spend longer at Praia Grande.
Adjust the sequence to the trail, weather and calendar
The three days' order can change according to the forecast and Acaraí availability. Secure the trail's place first and distribute Centro and beaches across the other days. If rain prevents an outdoor outing, a shorter alternative is lunch in Maruju’s air-conditioned space in Enseada and rescheduling the trail according to availability.
The official calendar was consulted on 19 October 2026. Its page described Carnival, Festilha and a food festival but provided no verifiable future dates. The consultation was inconclusive for events after that date; none entered the itinerary. Check again close to travel before choosing an additional accommodation night for a programme.
Organise transport around the three outing groups
For drivers arriving via BR-101, the connection to São Francisco do Sul follows BR-280. Plan arrival and departure separately from the three sightseeing days, considering accommodation address and traffic conditions without relying on a fixed journey time.
Grouping by area helps prevent extra-trip spending. Use these three groups when comparing accommodation and transport options:
Without a car, consult Viação Verdes Mares before booking a base. The operator provides routes, timetables and journey planning, but research could not verify frequency, fare or last departure. Check every outward and return journey, particularly access to Acaraí: municipal public transport does not confirm a route to the trail entrance.
- Centro day: historic buildings, Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça and Municipal Market on foot; Paulas as an optional meal outing.
- Beach day: Enseada, Maruju’s and Prainha, returning to accommodation at the end.
- Nature day: Acaraí access through Praia Grande neighbourhood and a beach afternoon.
Compare the cost of your stay and pack for your itinerary
Before booking, calculate the same itinerary twice: once starting in Centro and once in Enseada. Add accommodation and transport, including Convés only to add Paulas. A lower nightly rate can lose its advantage when the address requires more paid journeys.
In Viajandar's Trip Calculator, enter destination, full stay duration, traveller count and style. The tool presents estimates in Brazilian reais for accommodation, food and transport, with a 15% margin. Use the result as an illustrative reference and compare directly researched figures; it is not a quote.
Then build a Mala Inteligente checklist with duration including arrival and departure, traveller profiles and expected climate. Review it for specific activities: Centro walking, time at Enseada and Prainha, and the Acaraí trail. Packing then follows your chosen itinerary.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Stay in Centro | Travellers wanting more time among historic buildings and Babitonga scenery. | It favours heritage day but requires organising beach and Acaraí outings. |
| Stay in Enseada | Travellers following this sequence, with one Centro day and two coastal days. | Our suggestion for this itinerary. You still need routes to Centro, Prainha and Acaraí access. |
| Split the stay | Travellers with a commitment or need justifying sleeping in both areas. | Changing adds packing and check-out/check-in times. For three sightseeing days, one base is generally more practical. |
Your itinerary, ready to save
Day 1 — Historic Centre and optional Paulas dinner
Begin among the historic buildings beside Babitonga, using Marcantoni and Görresen family mansions as exterior-viewing references. Continue to Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça and Municipal Market, checking interior access. Take the route slowly and, if the journey fits the budget, finish with dinner at Convés in Paulas overlooking the bay.
Prefer an alternative? To finish earlier, explore historic houses, Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça and Municipal Market in the morning and choose lunch at Convés in Paulas instead of dinner. It lists lunch 12:00–15:00; reconfirm service.Day 2 — Enseada, Maruju’s lunch and Prainha
Spend the morning at Praia da Enseada and walk the waterfront. Lunch at Maruju’s, Avenida Atlântica, 1902, after confirming service. In the afternoon, continue to Prainha for a sand break and views of sea, rocks and vegetation without depending on an elevated access point.
Prefer an alternative? For an afternoon without another journey, stay at Praia da Enseada after Maruju’s lunch and leave Prainha for another occasion.Day 3 — Acaraí River Viewpoint Trail and Praia Grande
With the visit arranged for your date, walk Trilha Mirante do Rio Acaraí's 1.4 km in the morning through restinga habitats to a natural viewpoint. IMA's indicated access starts in Praia Grande neighbourhood along Avenida das Dunas. Afterwards, continue to Praia Grande and reserve the afternoon for the beach.
Prefer an alternative? Without Acaraí availability and with favourable weather, devote the period to Praia Grande. If rain prevents outdoor sightseeing, a shorter alternative is lunch at air-conditioned Maruju’s in Enseada; reschedule the trail according to spaces. Before you go
- Compare accommodation address with outings and add nightly rate and transport. Neither Centro nor Enseada is established as cheaper.
- Check date, spaces, visiting conditions and possible Acaraí trail charges before fixing the day order.
- Check Igreja Nossa Senhora da Graça and Municipal Market service for interior visits.
- Keep the National Sea Museum interior outside planning until official reopening confirmation.
- Confirm Maruju’s service and request the current menu. Also reconfirm Convés hours, particularly holidays.
- If relying on buses, check outward, return and last departures with Viação Verdes Mares; fares and frequency were not verified.
- Check the forecast before ordering outings. Mala Inteligente's climate selection does not replace the weather forecast.
- Include arrival and departure in packing and budget duration. Calculator results are estimates, not quotes.
- Recheck the official calendar close to travel: research on 19 October 2026 was inconclusive for future events.
Questions to help you decide
Is Centro or Enseada the better base?
For this sequence, we suggest Enseada: two days focus on the coast and one on Centro. Prefer Centro to spend more time among historic buildings and Babitonga. Compare nightly rates and transport together; no quote establishes which area costs less.
Can I follow the itinerary without a car?
Viação Verdes Mares operates municipal public transport, but research did not confirm frequency, last departures or connections for every outing. Check outward and return journeys before booking accommodation, particularly for Acaraí access.
How long is Trilha Mirante do Rio Acaraí?
IMA lists 1.4 km total, with 700 m to the natural viewpoint. The page lets you select dates and check spaces; availability and free admission were not confirmed.
Does the National Sea Museum feature in the outing?
The interior visit was left out. TJSC news from 2 September 2026 states that visits remain prohibited. Research on 19 October 2026 found no later reopening confirmation. Museu Histórico Prefeito José Schmidt is a different venue.
Do the three days include arrival and departure?
No. These are three full days available for sightseeing, excluding arrival and departure. The selection covers Centro, Enseada, Prainha, Acaraí and Praia Grande without aiming to cover the whole municipality.
