Maringá in two days: parks, cathedral, Mercadão and where to stay
Two full days in Maringá with Ingá, the cathedral, Parque do Japão and Mercadão: visits, meals, accommodation areas and alternatives.

GETTING STARTED
Combine Ingá, Mercadão and the cathedral on Saturday, then devote Sunday morning to Parque do Japão. See where to look for accommodation, where to eat and how to include Museu UniCesumar or Parque Alfredo Nyffeller.
Who it is for: Couples, families and independent travellers who want two full days of parks, architecture and gastronomy in Maringá, with well-located accommodation and attention to costs. Two days of parks, architecture and a leisurely meal break
Begin among Ingá’s trees, take a meal break at Mercadão and finish the afternoon at the cathedral. The next day, devote the morning to Parque do Japão. This sequence combines four Maringá outings with time to return to your accommodation, rest and decide whether you want another walk.
These are two full days, planned for Saturday and Sunday, excluding arrival and departure. It is a weekend selection with the option to add Parque Alfredo Nyffeller. To reduce backtracking, choose accommodation by looking at sight addresses: “centre” in an advertisement alone says little about your route.
Where to stay to make the most of your location
Begin your search in the centre, using Parque do Ingá and the cathedral as map references. According to Viaje Paraná, hotels and guesthouses are concentrated centrally. For this itinerary, look for a base that makes Saturday’s visits and a return to rest before dinner easier, especially with children.
Mercadão’s surroundings in Zona 07 are also worth comparing if you plan more meals there. Put each accommodation’s address into your transport planning and check journeys to Ingá and the cathedral. Convenient meals need to work within the whole trip.
Being near Parque do Japão helps on Sunday, but the other three outings count too. Compare room and transport costs together: extra journeys can reduce booking savings. Viajandar’s Maringá page provides listings to begin searching; confirm conditions and services directly with the accommodation.
- Compare the total accommodation cost, including arrival and departure days.
- Check breakfast and, if driving, parking conditions.
- Add journeys to all four outings before choosing accommodation by room rate.
Saturday morning: lake, trails and Japanese Garden at Ingá
Devote Saturday morning to Parque do Ingá on Avenida São Paulo, Zona 1. Its approximately 47 hectares include a lake and trails for a walk with breaks. Explore the available paths and stop beside the water to observe vegetation before continuing.
Include the Japanese Garden in the same visit. It is inside Ingá, so you see the lake and garden without arranging more transport. Parque do Japão is elsewhere: leave it for Sunday with a morning of its own.
Ingá lists opening Tuesday to Sunday, 08:00–17:00, closed Mondays. After the walk, go to Mercadão to combine lunch and exploring the aisles. For a free afternoon, you can also visit the cathedral before lunch by shortening your park stay.

At Avenida Prudente de Morais, 601, Mercadão occupies a former grain warehouse built in 1958. Explore the aisles and have lunch, making the meal break part of the outing.
Boteco do Neco suits this stop for Brazilian cuisine, with snacks and fritters among its advertised specialities. Published service starts at 11:00. Check the day’s menu and hours to choose a meal for your appetite and budget.
Afterwards, Adore Brigaderia is an option for coffee and a choice of savoury snacks, sweets and brigadeiros. Published hours are Saturday 08:00–18:00 and Sunday 08:00–13:00, so after-lunch coffee works better on Saturday. Check each shop separately because retail and dining hours differ within Mercadão.
Cathedral: a stop to admire the architecture
After lunch, visit Catedral Nossa Senhora da Glória to admire its conical exterior and go inside. It is a change of scene after the morning among Ingá’s trees: allow time for the architecture and respect services when entering.
On 23/10/2026, the cathedral listed visits during opening hours, 06:30–22:00, with the viewpoint temporarily closed for renovation. Plan without the climb. Afterwards, return to your accommodation to rest; if you visited the church before lunch, you could spend the afternoon at Parque Alfredo Nyffeller.

After the Ingá morning, the cathedral’s conical form invites a stop to admire the architecture.

On Sunday, devote the morning to Parque do Japão at Rua Tulipa, 987, Jardim Industrial. Its Japanese-inspired gardens, lakes and buildings associated with immigration deserve a leisurely visit. Explore the complex, notice details and take breaks along the way.
This outing needs a separate journey. Arrange both directions before leaving; Vou de Ônibus TCCC lets you check stops, departures and routes by time. The park lists opening Tuesday to Sunday, 08:00–18:00.
For coffee at Adore Brigaderia to start the day, go through Mercadão before the park if the stop suits your route. Another option is lunch at Boteco do Neco on returning, with time to explore the aisles. This switch works well if you left Mercadão out on Saturday.

After Parque do Japão, return to your accommodation’s area for a break. For more outdoor time in the afternoon, add Parque Alfredo Nyffeller: its lake, viewpoint and walking track provide a specific reason to discover another city park.
Allow another journey for this visit. For a short afternoon, focus on the walk and lake views from the lookout. If lunch and Mercadão were left for Sunday, enjoy that combination and save Nyffeller for another trip.
Rain on Saturday: Maringá’s history at Museu UniCesumar
If it rains on Saturday morning, replace Ingá with Museu UniCesumar at Avenida Guedner, 1610, Jardim Aclimação, after confirming opening. The visit presents Maringá’s history, with spaces including Casa do Pioneiro, Tulha Cafeeira and Espaço do Automóvel. It introduces the city’s development before lunch at Mercadão.
Admission is free. Published Saturday hours are 08:00–12:00; it closes on Sundays. Confirm through the official contact which spaces will be available and arrange your morning route to continue from museum to Mercadão.
October 2026: Ingá at night and a food festival
Will you be in Maringá on the weekend of 24 and 25 October 2026? On Saturday, 24/10/2026, Parque do Ingá hosts Natureza Gigante à Noite, 19:00–22:30. The illuminated giant-insect exhibition gives a reason to return after the daytime walk. Access is through the main Avenida São Paulo gate, with a voluntary contribution of 1 kg of animal feed. Check registration and availability before arranging the evening.
From 02/10/2026 to 01/11/2026, Festival Bom Gourmet Maringá can also form part of your planned Mercadão meal. Boteco do Neco participates: check its menu and conditions on the official page and compare with what you intended to order. This lets you enjoy the food programme at the same itinerary stop.
Outside those dates, keep the daytime Ingá walk and Mercadão visit, checking establishment hours to choose lunch or dinner.
Budget and pack for your itinerary
To manage expenses, start with recurring choices: accommodation, meals and transport. Combine lunch with Mercadão, compare accommodation by total journey costs and avoid unnecessary returns to the same place. Museu UniCesumar’s free admission makes it a Saturday-morning cultural option.
In the Travel Calculator, enter Maringá, total duration, number of people and travel style. Include arrival and departure even though they fall outside the two sightseeing days. You receive an illustrative estimate in reais divided into accommodation, meals, transport and a buffer. Compare these references with prices you find while planning.
Once the sequence is set, open Mala Inteligente and select duration, weather conditions and traveller profiles. Use the checklist for park walks and city visits, including travel days. To continue searching for accommodation and food, explore Viajandar’s Maringá listings and confirm details directly with each establishment.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| The centre, using Ingá and the cathedral as landmarks | Anyone who wants to combine Parque do Ingá and the cathedral and return to their accommodation for rest between visits. | This is the first area to research for the itinerary. Compare exact addresses and room rates; Parque do Japão still needs its own journey. |
| Around Mercadão in Zona 07 | Anyone planning to have most meals at Mercadão. | It makes meals convenient, but compare journeys to Ingá, the cathedral and Parque do Japão before booking. |
| Accommodation farther from central attractions | Anyone finding a lower room rate outside these areas. | Add transport costs to the room rate: extra journeys may use up the difference. |
| Museu UniCesumar on Saturday morning | Anyone wanting to replace Saturday’s walk with a cultural visit. | Admission is free, but published Saturday hours end at 12:00. Confirm opening before leaving; the museum closes on Sundays. |
