Maceió in five days: where to stay and how to combine beaches, culture and crafts
Five full Maceió days: choose Pajuçara or Ponta Verde and combine beaches, Jaraguá, a free museum, Pontal da Barra and meals along the way.

GETTING STARTED
Choose a Pajuçara or Ponta Verde base and explore Maceió by area: waterfront, Jatiúca, Jaraguá, Museu Palácio Floriano Peixoto, Pontal da Barra and Garça Torta. These are five full days with food breaks, excluding arrival and departure.
Who it is for: First-time Maceió visitors wanting beaches, culture and crafts, choosing accommodation and outings to avoid unnecessary journeys.Five days exploring Maceió from one base
In Maceió, you can alternate jangada boats, historic houses, literature and filé embroidery without spending the day travelling back and forth to the hotel. Choose a base in Pajuçara or Ponta Verde and group outings by area. Each day focuses on a different area: Pajuçara; Ponta Verde with Jatiúca; Jaraguá; the centre with Pontal da Barra; and Garça Torta.
Reserve five full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. The route explores different sides of the capital, including a northern beach, while allowing time to walk, eat and look at crafts. Add days to explore other parts of the Alagoas coast.
Before deciding the order, schedule the museums on weekdays and check the tide for the jangada trip from Pajuçara. Then adjust the sequence while keeping each area's outings together. These combinations help avoid repeated journeys.
Where to stay: Pajuçara or Ponta Verde?
Imagine the outing you would like to repeat after returning to the hotel. If it includes Feirinha da Pajuçara, the Boulevard and jangada scenery, start looking in Pajuçara. The area has hotels, bars and restaurants; use itinerary stops to compare each address's location.
Ponta Verde suits visitors wanting to return to Marco dos Corais, stroll past the Eu Amo Maceió sign and enjoy the waterfront towards Jatiúca. Restaurants and cafés also feature in the area. Check the route from the accommodation's door to your favourite places when choosing.
To manage your budget, add the total cost of your stay to your expected transport costs and check what the booking includes. This calculation is more useful than choosing solely by neighbourhood name. For these five days, we suggest staying in the same accommodation and using it as a base for the more distant outings.
Getting around without multiplying return journeys
Begin with airport-to-accommodation travel. Aena lists Astril and Comtal taxis on the terminal's ground floor and Veleiro buses in front of the airport. Check the route to your address, including possible connections, and consider luggage and how many people share the expense.
On sightseeing days, use Cittamobi to check bus lines, routes, timetables and arrival estimates. Plan both the outward and return journeys for Jaraguá, Pontal da Barra and Garça Torta. Compare the full bus journey with the taxi fare for your group; arrival estimates can vary.
The itinerary helps with that calculation too: Ponta Verde and Jatiúca share one day, while the centre outing continues to Pontal da Barra before returning to the hotel. Garça Torta has its own day. This avoids extra city crossings between outings already fitting together.
Day 1: jangadas and crafts in Pajuçara
Start in Pajuçara to settle into the rhythm of the waterfront. Walk along Boulevard da Pajuçara, look for Mestre Zezinho's mermaid sculpture and pause to watch the jangadas beside the beach. These stops give you a route for the first outing, even if you chose to stay in Ponta Verde.
Want a jangada trip to the natural pools? Arrange the day around low tide and confirm time, operation and price before booking. Departure can fall at different times according to date, so leave walking and shopping for before or after it.
Complete the day with Feirinha da Pajuçara and Pavilhão do Artesanato. Look at the pieces, compare prices and make a note of your favourites: over the next few days, you will also discover Mercado das Artes 31 and Pontal's filé embroidery. If the jangada trip does not fit your plans, combine the Boulevard, craft market and pavilion to stay in the neighbourhood without improvising a journey further afield.

Between jangada scenery and craft shopping, Pajuçara offers a first day within one area.

On day two, head to Marco dos Corais, pass the Eu Amo Maceió sign and view Farol de Ponta Verde from the waterfront. Marco dos Corais has street furniture and bicycle parking and makes a good stop to enjoy the scenery between walks. Take your time along this stretch without feeling you have to see every stop at once.
Then continue to Jatiúca beach and stop for a meal in the neighbourhood. We suggest Parmegianno Amélia Rosa, at Avenida Dr. Antônio Gomes de Barros, 186: its location lets you include the meal in your Ponta Verde and Jatiúca day. The venue lists daily service from 11:00 to 23:00; check prices to choose within your budget.
You can walk just part of the route. To walk less, focus the first stops on Marco dos Corais and the sign, then use transport to reach the restaurant. Visit Jatiúca beach before the meal if you wish, leaving the rest of the day free to enjoy the waterfront.

Visit Ponta Verde beach and Jatiúca on the same day, with breaks to enjoy the waterfront.

Jaraguá brings a change of scene. Start at Museu da Imagem e do Som de Alagoas, known as MISA, then pass Praça Dois Leões and Rua Sá e Albuquerque. Among the historic houses and cultural spaces, allow time to look at the façades: they are part of discovering the neighbourhood too.
Visit MISA at the start of the outing. Its listed opening hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, with closure on weekends and public holidays. Confirm opening and admission conditions before visiting.
Continue to Mercado das Artes 31, which brings together art and crafts in a cultural and commercial space. The stop extends the walk through Jaraguá and lets you discover other pieces after your visits to Pajuçara's Feirinha and Pavilhão. Check the market's opening hours when planning the day.
If you enjoy hearing local stories as you walk, an alternative is Pé na Rua Maceió, guided by Fabrícia Barreto. Its presented route covers Jaraguá, the centre and Mirante São Gonçalo. Check availability, price and your departure's route; replace independent walking with the guided outing and adjust the following day's central visits if you choose it.

Reserve the morning for Museu Palácio Floriano Peixoto at Praça Marechal Floriano Peixoto, 517, in the centre. Admission is free, combining history, art and literature before an afternoon devoted to Pontal da Barra.
Its collection includes furniture, Alagoas paintings, Espaço Aurélio Buarque de Holanda and Memorial Lêdo Ivo. It is a good chance to focus on Alagoas writers and art, expanding the trip beyond waterfront and craft shopping.
The listed opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 09:00–16:00, and Monday and Friday, 09:00–14:00. The museum closes on weekends and public holidays. Choose a Tuesday-to-Thursday morning if possible and confirm opening shortly before your visit. Then continue directly to Pontal, returning to your accommodation at the end of the outing.
Day 4 afternoon: filé embroidery and Lagoa Mundaú in Pontal
After the museum, continue to Pontal da Barra. Use the centre outing to reach this lacemaking neighbourhood without returning to your accommodation's waterfront first. Plan travel between the stops and back to the hotel.
Devote the afternoon to filé embroidery shops. Observe designs, colours and finishes and ask about pieces that catch your attention. Pontal is a centre of this craft, and visiting shops allows time to choose what to take home. Check opening for those you wish to see.
Between shops, pause to enjoy Lagoa Mundaú's landscape. The combination of crafts and water gives the afternoon its purpose: discover the pieces and the setting where the tradition lives.

The waterside landscape completes the afternoon devoted to Pontal da Barra's filé embroidery.

On day five, head to Garça Torta, north of Maceió. The beach has a narrow strip of sand, even at low tide, and less varied facilities than the central waterfront. Set aside the outing to explore this stretch of coast, walk along the sand and enjoy the scenery, without adding a trip to the centre or Pontal.
Set out with both directions planned and let conditions determine how long to stay. Observe the sea before entering. You can spend part of the day at the beach and eat on the way back.
For that break, we suggest Janga at Parque Shopping, Avenida Comendador Gustavo Paiva, 5945, Cruz das Almas. An indoor meal fits the return to the central waterfront if the shopping centre lies on your chosen route. Check kitchen hours and prices before including it.
Cinema in Pajuçara: screenings from 25 to 28 October 2026
Would you like to include a film in your trip? Arte Pajuçara is in Galeria Artcenter Pajuçara, at Avenida Dr. Antônio Gouveia, 1113. It fits the Pajuçara day and also offers an indoor outing for a rainy afternoon near the beach.
For visitors in late October 2026, the programme checked on 24 October lists Margherita Spampinato's Meu Verão na Sicília at the sessions below. It offers a film alongside waterfront outings. Regular tickets are sold at the box office.
For another week, use the official link to select a screening in the corresponding programme.
- 25 October 2026 at 16:45: Meu Verão na Sicília.
- 27 October 2026 at 17:50: Meu Verão na Sicília.
- 28 October 2026 at 17:15: Meu Verão na Sicília.
Plan your budget and packing for the five days
Once outings are arranged, open Calculadora de Viagem and enter destination, days, people and style. Include total trip duration with arrival and departure. The tool presents an estimate in reais for accommodation, food and transport with a 15% margin.
Use the result as a starting point and compare it with prices found for your trip: it is an illustrative estimate, not a quotation. When choosing Pajuçara or Ponta Verde, add accommodation and transport. Also note expected jangada, cinema, meal and craft-shopping costs.
Then turn the itinerary into a checklist in Mala Inteligente. Select Calor/Praia (Hot Weather/Beach), enter the total trip duration and traveller profiles, and review the list for beach days as well as walks in Jaraguá and museum visits. To continue looking for accommodation and local services, explore the Maceió page too.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Stay in Pajuçara | You want to return to the craft market, visit Pavilhão do Artesanato and use the jangada departure area as a landmark. | Compare the address with those points: being in the neighbourhood does not mean a short walk to all of them. |
| Stay in Ponta Verde | You want to revisit Marco dos Corais and the Ponta Verde waterfront, combining this area with Jatiúca. | Arrange transport for Jaraguá, the centre, Pontal da Barra and Garça Torta. Compare stay and travel costs to find the base fitting your budget. |
| Use buses for distant outings | You have flexibility to follow available routes and timetables. | Check the full Cittamobi route including walks, connections and return. Predictions help planning but can vary. |
| Compare taxi and public transport | You are travelling with others or want to simplify a journey with luggage. | Ask the price for your destination and divide by passenger count before comparing with bus costs. |

Questions to help you decide
Is Pajuçara or Ponta Verde better for accommodation?
Pajuçara suits visitors wanting to return to the craft market, Pavilhão do Artesanato and jangada area. Ponta Verde favours Marco dos Corais and waterfront walks towards Jatiúca. Choose by address and compare accommodation plus transport without assuming one neighbourhood is always cheaper.
Do the five days include arrival and departure?
No. These are five whole sightseeing days excluding arrival and departure. The route covers the capital including Garça Torta, not the entire Alagoas coast.
How should I adapt the day order?
Start with less flexible commitments: place MISA and Museu Palácio Floriano Peixoto on weekdays and adapt Pajuçara to jangada tides. Then fit Ponta Verde with Jatiúca and Garça Torta into remaining days.
What if it rains?
Arte Pajuçara offers cinema near the waterfront. Museu Palácio Floriano Peixoto is another indoor option on opening days. Bring the museum forward and leave Garça Torta for another day.
Do I need to rent a car?
You can plan without a rental car, combining walking, buses and taxis. Pay special attention to both directions for Garça Torta and Pontal da Barra, outside the central waterfront cluster.
