GETTING STARTED

Combine the Historic Centre and its museums with Juarez Machado’s art, Hemero Gardens and the viewpoint. On 17–22 November 2026, add Festa das Flores at Expoville, with Confeitaria XV and GutBrau breaks. These are four full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure.

Who it is for: Travellers wanting four full sightseeing days in Joinville with museums, gardens, cafés and landscapes, combining central walks with transport for longer journeys.

Four days to change scenery without rushing

You can put together four varied days in Joinville: one for the Historic Centre, another for art, a third for gardens and the viewpoint, and the last for the Flower Festival. The appeal lies in changing how you see the city, from immigration history to the peoples who built sambaquis, from artworks to plant collections. Between visits, there is room for pastries, a picnic and an unhurried lunch.

This itinerary considers four full sightseeing days, with arrival and departure counted separately. To include the festival, one suggestion is 19–22 November 2026: in this order, Instituto Juarez Machado falls on Friday, the viewpoint on Saturday and Expoville on Sunday. You discover different sides of Joinville and still have reasons to return.

The 86th Festa das Flores is confirmed for 17–22 November 2026. Outside that period, the fourth day can include lunch and an afternoon at GutBrau Vila Nova’s rural park if it falls on a weekend or holiday. The other outings still form a spring itinerary with plenty of variety.

Where to stay and organise outings

My suggested base is the centre, because it fits Rua das Palmeiras, the Immigration Museum, Cathedral and Sambaqui Museum. You benefit from concentrated attractions on day one and organise subsequent journeys from the same area. When choosing accommodation, compare its address with these outings and the comfort you are looking for.

If arriving by air, Aeroporto Lauro Carneiro de Loyola is at Avenida Santos Dumont, 9000. The concessionaire lists route 240 — Aeroporto via Emílio Landmann, boarding opposite the terminal, plus taxis and car hire. Choose according to luggage and preference, checking bus operation for your arrival.

In the centre, combine stops on foot whenever that suits you. For Hemero, Expoville and the connection to Morro da Boa Vista, include transport in the planning. A hired car can serve some of these outings but does not provide unrestricted general access to the viewpoint ascent.

Day 1: Rua das Palmeiras, immigration and Cathedral

Start on Rua das Palmeiras and continue to Museu Nacional de Imigração e Colonização at Rua Rio Branco, 229. The avenue and museum make an opening that fits both map and theme: after observing the urban ensemble, you encounter materials connected with immigration history in southern Brazil.

The museum lists opening Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–16:00. An individual visit needs no booking; the city’s reservation service covers guided groups of 20–40 people. Organise the morning around opening, then continue to Catedral São Francisco Xavier, respecting the visiting conditions at the time.

Before the afternoon at Museu de Sambaqui, pause at Confeitaria XV’s central branch. To extend your Historic Centre walk, include Mercado Público too. Leave it until after the museum, which ends visiting at 16:00.

Museu de Sambaqui: history long before immigration

In the afternoon, go to Museu Arqueológico de Sambaqui at Rua Dona Francisca, 600, still in the centre. It adds an essential layer: the museum explores the peoples who built sambaquis and lived in the region more than five thousand years ago. After the immigration morning, this shift broadens the history you take away from the city.

Published regular hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–16:00, so leave time before closing. An evening session is also announced for 18 November 2026, 18:30–21:30. For those already in Joinville that evening, it frees the first afternoon for Mercado Público and a longer pastry-shop break. If arriving on the 18th itself, add the museum only if travel leaves a genuine margin.

At Museu de Sambaqui the itinerary gains a regional perspective much earlier than immigration.

Confeitaria XV with the right address

Confeitaria XV deserves a stop for what it offers and how it fits the outing. Founded in 1964, it presents cakes, pies, cucas and savoury snacks, with apfelstrudel among its specialities. Look at the counter’s available options and choose whatever you feel like trying.

For centre and art days, use the Rua Visconde de Taunay, 45, Centro branch as your reference. It can provide leisurely coffee or a light snack between visits; confirm hours before leaving. The branch at Rua Quinze de Novembro, 3087, is in Glória and makes sense only if you are already following that corridor: these addresses are not interchangeable in the itinerary.

Day 2: art among a house, pavilions and gardens

Begin day two at Museu de Arte de Joinville, Rua XV de Novembro, 1400, América. Housed in Ottokar Doerffel’s former home, it combines indoor and outdoor spaces for contemplating artworks. Allow time for the house and gardens: the surroundings form part of the experience. Admission is free and published opening is Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–16:00.

Continue through Quadra Cultural, linking MAJ with Instituto Internacional Juarez Machado along XV de Novembro, Jaguaruna and Lages streets. Praça dos Suíços is a possible stop. To eat before the next visit, detour to Confeitaria XV at Rua Visconde de Taunay, 45, Centro. Coffee with a savoury snack or cuca slice, depending on daily options, provides a break between museums; consider the round trip when planning the afternoon.

In the afternoon, continue to Instituto Juarez Machado at Rua Lages, 994. Two exhibition pavilions, the restored home of the artist’s parents and the gardens offer room to alternate artworks and outdoors. The collection includes paintings, sculpture, prints, photographs, posters and publications. The Institute opens Tuesday to Saturday, 09:00–18:00; book mediated visits and check the exhibition close to your trip.

Day 3: Hemero gardens and a picnic

On day three, change scale: leave the museum circuit for Jardins Hemero at Rua Tenente Antônio João, 4257, Jardim Sofia. The park presents nine gardens, a collection of more than 300 species, a lake, sensory experiences, children’s areas and an Atlantic Forest trail. Reserve the morning and some early afternoon for walking, observing plants and enjoying outdoor spaces.

Hemero itself estimates two to four hours and allows picnics, provided waste is removed. This is a useful way to fit lunch without another outing: bring what you intend to eat because meals are not included in admission. Published hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00.

To combine gardens and viewpoint, aim to reach Hemero near 09:00, walk through the gardens and picnic before leaving. Afterwards, take transport to Morro da Boa Vista’s access. Even using the park’s estimated four hours, part of the afternoon remains for travel and ascent, depending on access and weather.

Viewpoint: a view worth its own planning

Mirante Higino Aguiar on Morro da Boa Vista closes the landscape day with views of the city, Baía Babitonga and Serra do Mar. After walking among plants at Hemero, ascending reveals Joinville on a larger scale. Choose a favourable weather window, remembering that visibility depends on the day’s conditions.

The ascent is 2.3 km. The city lists access on foot, by bicycle and by bus on weekends and holidays; private cars do not have unrestricted general access. To reduce effort, try to choose a bus day and confirm operation before leaving. In the 19–22 November 2026 example, the third day is Saturday.

The tower closes in rain or strong wind. If these are forecast, swap with Instituto Juarez Machado, open Tuesday to Saturday, leaving the viewpoint for better weather. On Sunday, move Museu de Sambaqui to this afternoon within regular hours. Make the swap before visiting the chosen museum so each day offers a different experience.

Day 4: Festa das Flores and lunch at Expoville

Reserve day four for the 86th Festa das Flores, confirmed for 17–22 November 2026 at Expoville. After Hemero’s gardens, you find another approach to growing flowers: announced programming includes orchids and ornamental plants, prize-winning specimens, a Plant Market and cultural performances.

We suggest starting with the exhibition, taking a food break and continuing in the afternoon according to the day’s programme. GutBrau Expoville, Rua Quinze de Novembro, 4621, is chosen for its restaurant, brewery and position in the complex. Expoville’s page lists daily opening 11:00–23:00; confirm any access changes during the festival.

For an outing extending into the evening, Totens Forneria & Confetteria appears on the complex website with pizzas and Tuesday-to-Sunday service, 18:30–23:30. It is a dinner alternative in the same destination, subject to event access conditions.

If interested in the Flor da Melhor Idade competition, it is announced for the afternoon of 20 November 2026. In the 19–22 example, do art on the 19th, festival on the 20th, Hemero and viewpoint on the 21st and centre on the 22nd. Instituto Juarez Machado then remains on an opening day.

Outside the festival: Vila Nova lunch or longer in the centre

If your trip does not coincide with Festa das Flores, a fourth-day suggestion is GutBrau Vila Nova at Estrada Motucas, 3122. The establishment brings together craft-beer production, cooking and a rural park, with opening listed for weekends and holidays. Go for lunch and part of the afternoon, with outward and return transport arranged.

This outing changes the landscape after two days of culture and one of gardens. Check opening for your chosen date and distinguish Vila Nova from Expoville: their different addresses require their own journeys.

If day four falls Tuesday to Friday, another solution is more time in the centre: keep Rua das Palmeiras, Immigration Museum and Cathedral on day one; leave Sambaqui, Mercado Público and Confeitaria XV for day four. This gives longer at each visit and a more leisurely coffee break.

From itinerary to checklist and spending estimate

With outing order set, use Mala Inteligente to turn the trip into a checklist. Enter total duration including arrival and departure, traveller profiles and the expected climate based on a forecast you consult. For this itinerary, review walking shoes, rain protection and personal items; the tool organises packing but does not provide a weather forecast.

In Calculadora de Viagem, select Joinville, people and total stay duration. Compare Backpacking, Comfort and Luxury to understand changes in the estimate in reais for accommodation, food and transport, with the tool’s 15% margin.
