GETTING STARTED

Divide six full days between the centre, Lagoa and Joaquina, Costa da Lagoa, Tamar and Barra, Santo Antônio and Ribeirão da Ilha. The route includes meals with addresses and official sources, concrete alternatives and time to rest; arrival and departure are excluded.

Who it is for: Brazilian travellers wanting beaches, Azorean heritage, a boat outing and marine conservation, with breaks for food and rest.

Six sightseeing days, with a base that helps you get around

You can combine the centre, Lagoa, beaches and historic parishes over six full days without turning every morning into a race. We suggest one day in the centre, three in the east, one in the north and one in the south. The Costa da Lagoa boat trip gets its own day; lunch in Ribeirão also has room to linger.

Arrival and departure are counted separately. This varied itinerary allows six full sightseeing days without trying to cover every beach in Florianópolis. You can change the order to suit the weather, opening days and events that coincide with your stay.

Choose your accommodation base around routes you expect to repeat. The centre favours TICEN connections; Lagoa places you near the area of three consecutive outings. This is a logistical suggestion: before booking, check the exact address and how to reach the itinerary's places from it.

The airport is in Carianos in the island's south and lists buses, taxis and marked ride-hailing pick-up points. Reserve arrival day for settling in and give departure its own margin. Being in the south on the last outing is not sufficient reason to squeeze Ribeirão in before a flight.

  • Centre: suggested for visitors valuing the historic outing and TICEN connections.
  • Lagoa da Conceição: suggested to bring accommodation nearer the area of days 2, 3 and 4.
  • Car or hired transport: worth considering especially for the fort–Santo Antônio and Peri–Ribeirão combinations.
  • Bus: arrange routes around terminals and check lines for each date, without assuming frequency.

Day 1: museum, Praça XV and lunch at Mercado Público

Start at Museu de Florianópolis on Praça XV de Novembro. It provides a useful introduction to the city before walking the centre. After the visit, explore the square and continue to Mercado Público, keeping the day focused on this part of town.

If you want to sit down before lunch, Café do Museu is conveniently on the route. The venue lists an air-conditioned space and a menu of sweets, savoury snacks, drinks and some dishes inspired by island cooking. Take a break between the museum and the walk without having to look in another neighbourhood.

For lunch, we suggest Box 32 inside Mercado Público. It is a practical choice: you can sit down for a meal and then continue exploring the market. Choose from the menu available that day; there is no need to make the visit depend on one particular dish.

Box 32 lists Sunday closure. In that case, keep Praça XV and Mercado Público and use Café do Museu for a break within its opening hours. For local guidance, a tourist information centre operates in the market itself.

  • Museu de Florianópolis: Praça XV de Novembro, 214; closes Tuesdays and also lists closure on 2 November.
  • Box 32: Mercado Público, Rua Jerônimo Coelho, 60, Ala Sul, Box 04S; published hours Monday to Friday, 10:00–20:00, Saturday, 10:00–15:00.
  • Café do Museu: Monday to Friday except Tuesday, 10:00–19:00; weekends and holidays, 10:30–15:00. Reconfirm opening exceptions.

Day 2: Lagoa da Conceição, dunes and an afternoon at Joaquina

Start with a Lagoa da Conceição outing and let the morning unfold there, observing the landscape and pausing before continuing. Lagoa deserves time of its own: today it is more than a route to the beach.

Next, continue to the dune field at Parque Natural Municipal das Dunas da Lagoa da Conceição and Praia da Joaquina. The area combines coastal restinga vegetation, dunes and beach, giving you varied scenery without adding another region to the itinerary. Set aside most of the afternoon to spend at Joaquina.

Sandboarding appears among attractions promoted by the municipality. To try it, check availability and conditions on site; public access does not mean equipment hire is included. A practical suggestion is bringing water and a snack for the break between dunes and beach.

Would you prefer an even more relaxed day? Spend both the morning and afternoon at Lagoa, leaving Joaquina out of the plan. The trade-off is clear: less travel and more time in one place, without feeling you have to make up for it later by visiting two beaches in a day.

Day 3: boat and walking at Costa da Lagoa

Today the boat forms part of the outing. Cooperbarco lists boarding at Terminal Lacustre Ruth Bastos de Oliveira for Costa da Lagoa. Before leaving your accommodation, arrange outbound travel, disembarkation and return: website timetables predate the research and require direct confirmation.

The cooperative associates the waterfall and Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes with stop 16. Use these references to arrange a walk through the community and around the church and waterfall. Explore calmly without assuming the church is open or swimming conditions are suitable.

Bring water and a snack so your break is already organised. Leave the rest of the day for the lagoon journey and walk rather than scheduling a distant outing after disembarking. Cooperbarco also advertises exclusive tours, an option to ask about if you prefer arranging your group's own departure.

If boat operation is unconfirmed, swap this day for Tamar and Barra da Lagoa, respecting the visitor centre calendar. Costa can then wait for a date when return travel is arranged.

Day 4: marine conservation at Tamar and rest at Barra

Reserve the morning for Projeto Tamar's visitor centre on Rua Professor Ademir Francisco in Barra da Lagoa. Tanks, aquariums and marine conservation spaces add a new subject after landscape and boat days. The visit does not depend on turtle releases—this activity is not promised by the itinerary.

Tamar lists a hut serving coffee, popcorn, ice lollies and drinks. It is a convenient place for a short break during the visit, before continuing to nearby Barra da Lagoa beach.

Leave the afternoon for Barra, with time to walk and relax on the beach. If it rains, focus the outing on Tamar, which lists facilities suitable for visits in these conditions, and leave the beach out of the programme. Published opening hours are Wednesday to Monday, 09:30–17:00, so choose another outing from the itinerary for Tuesday.

Day 5: Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa and Santo Antônio

With visiting confirmed for your date, begin at Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa. It adds historical heritage before the Santo Antônio de Lisboa afternoon. For visitors in town on 25 October 2026, UFSC announced free visiting 10:00–18:30; transport is not included.

Then travel by road to Santo Antônio de Lisboa. The two places require a journey between them, so we suggest a car or hired transport for comfort that day. If taking buses, check the connections beforehand. Avoid adding a third area.

In Santo Antônio, walk the historic settlement and waterfront. Architectural heritage and the district's links with its port, fishing and oyster farming explain why the visit extends beyond scenery. Reserve part of the afternoon simply for stopping by the water.

For a slower pace, omit the fort and devote the day to Santo Antônio. Another morning substitute is Praia do Forte, listed by the Tourism Department among regional outings; keep the afternoon in Santo Antônio and check your chosen transport.

Day 6: Lagoa do Peri, a long lunch and Ribeirão's historic houses

Start in the area around the headquarters of Monumento Natural Municipal da Lagoa do Peri. Devote the morning to the lagoon scenery, with time for a break before the next journey. You can enjoy this stop without adding a trail walk.

Continue to Ribeirão da Ilha in the western part of the municipality's south. This combination needs a road journey: arrange departure from Peri around lunch without adopting a fixed journey time. A car or hired transport is worth considering here too.

We suggest making Ostradamus the most leisurely meal of the itinerary. We chose it for the restaurant’s history in Ribeirão and the place oysters have come to hold in its cooking. Check the menu and service for your date, without counting on a particular dish in advance.

After lunch, walk through the settlement and view the houses from outside. Ribeirão developed through Azorean colonisation, fishing and commerce. These connections make a fitting end to the trip after your visit to Santo Antônio.

If you prefer ending with more beach time, combine Lagoa do Peri and Praia da Armação. This stays on the eastern side of the southern island and replaces Ribeirão and Ostradamus. Choose one version to protect rest time.

  • Lagoa do Peri: headquarters at Rodovia Francisco Thomaz dos Santos, 3150; the municipal page lists daily access, 07:00–19:00.
  • Ostradamus: Rodovia Baldicero Filomeno, 7640, Freguesia do Ribeirão da Ilha.
  • The restaurant publishes Monday opening, 11:00–17:00; Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00–23:00; Sundays and holidays, 11:30–17:30.

Calendar: confirmed options for October and November 2026

If your trip falls on the upcoming dates in October and November 2026, consider adjusting the order of the outings. The events research was carried out on 23 October 2026. Access to the municipal calendar was inconclusive, so the highlights below were checked directly with those responsible. They do not cover the city’s entire programme.

Museu de Florianópolis lists its long-term exhibition for 3 August to 30 November 2026. Its sections explore oral narratives, the building’s history and contemporary issues in the city, so it fits the day in the centre. The end of the listed date range should not be read as an announcement that the exhibition will close permanently; the museum’s regular closing days also apply.

On 25 October 2026, 10:00–18:30, UFSC's announced free visiting lets you schedule Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa for that date. If it suits your stay, bring the northern day forward and keep Santo Antônio afterwards.

For an evening with a trio elétrico, the Brazilian music truck, Folianópolis is confirmed for 30 and 31 October and 1 November 2026 at Passarela Nego Quirido in the centre, for over-18s. Announced acts include Bell Marques, Claudia Leitte, Léo Santana, Banda Eva and Timbalada; the source consulted does not establish which night each will perform.

Treat Folianópolis as optional and keep the following day lighter—for example, an afternoon at Barra da Lagoa without a morning Tamar commitment. For other dates, consult organisers and tourist information centres at Mercado Público and Terminal Rita Maria.

Move from the itinerary to packing and budgeting

Once you have chosen the outings, turn the itinerary into a checklist in Mala Inteligente. Enter the full duration, including arrival and departure, the climate profile and who is travelling. For these days, I suggest comfortable shoes for the centre and historic parishes, swimwear, sun protection and a layer for wind or temperature changes. The tool organises your packing; check the weather forecast separately.

In Calculadora de Custos de Viagem, enter Florianópolis, the total stay duration, the number of people and the style that suits your plan, including Conforto (Comfort) if you prefer. The result is an illustrative estimate in reais, covering accommodation, food, transport and a 15% margin. Compare the reference figures with prices you research, and budget separately for specific admissions and outings.

To continue preparing, Viajandar's Florianópolis page brings together listed municipal attractions and services. Use it to explore the city, then directly confirm whatever your trip requires with each establishment.

Which option suits you?

OptionA good fit if…What to consider
Stay in the centreFor visitors beginning with the centre, Mercado Público and journeys using TICEN.The three Lagoa, Costa da Lagoa and Barra days require journeys east.
Stay in Lagoa da ConceiçãoYou prefer to stay near the area visited on days 2, 3 and 4 of this itinerary. The centre, Santo Antônio de Lisboa and Ribeirão da Ilha still require journeys; the accommodation's exact location matters.
Use busesFor visitors willing to check routes and organise days around TICEN, TILAG, TIRIO and TISAN connections.Combining the fort with Santo Antônio and Peri with Ribeirão requires more connection planning.
Use a car or hired transport on days 5 and 6For visitors wanting easier days with dispersed attractions, particularly north and south.Adds costs and requires parking or meeting and return arrangements.
Devote all of day 5 to Santo Antônio de LisboaFor visitors preferring longer in each place and willing to omit a stop.Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa is excluded that day, leaving more time for walking and waterfront rest.

Your itinerary, ready to save

Day 1 — centre

Begin with Museu de Florianópolis and Praça XV. Pause at Café do Museu, lunch at Box 32 and finish exploring Mercado Público without adding a distant beach.

Prefer an alternative? If Museu de Florianópolis is closed, explore Praça XV and Mercado Público and move the museum to an opening day. On Sundays, use Café do Museu for a break because Box 32 lists closure.

Day 2 — Lagoa da Conceição and Joaquina

Spend the morning at Lagoa da Conceição, continue to the dune field and reserve the afternoon for Praia da Joaquina. Bring water and a snack so the break does not become another journey.

Prefer an alternative? For less travel, stay at Lagoa da Conceição morning and afternoon, omitting dunes and Joaquina that day.

Day 3 — Costa da Lagoa

Board at Terminal Lacustre Ruth Bastos de Oliveira. Arrange disembarkation with Cooperbarco to explore around Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes and the waterfall, associated with stop 16. Walk through the community and return at the agreed time.

Prefer an alternative? If no boat departure is confirmed, visit Tamar and Barra da Lagoa on an opening day and move Costa da Lagoa to a date with agreed outbound and return travel.

Day 4 — Tamar and Barra da Lagoa

Visit Tamar's visitor centre in the morning, pause at its hut and continue to Barra da Lagoa beach. Keep the afternoon light on obligations.

Prefer an alternative? With rain, concentrate on Tamar's tanks, aquariums and conservation spaces and skip staying at Barra beach.

Day 5 — fort and Santo Antônio de Lisboa

After confirming opening for your date, visit Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa in the morning. Then travel by road to Santo Antônio de Lisboa to walk around the historic settlement and along the waterfront, with time to rest.

Prefer an alternative? For a lighter day, devote morning and afternoon to Santo Antônio de Lisboa's historic settlement and waterfront, removing the fort.

Day 6 — Lagoa do Peri and Ribeirão da Ilha

Spend the morning around the headquarters of Monumento Natural Municipal da Lagoa do Peri. Continue to Ribeirão da Ilha for a leisurely lunch at Ostradamus, then walk through the settlement and view the houses from outside.

Prefer an alternative? If you prefer to remain on the eastern side of the island’s south, combine Lagoa do Peri and Praia da Armação. This replaces Ribeirão da Ilha and lunch at Ostradamus.

Before you go

  • Allow six full sightseeing days and separately add arrival and departure time. The airport is in Carianos in the island's south; do not make the final outing depend on assumed journey times.
  • Check your accommodation address and required connections. For buses, consult current routes between TICEN, TILAG, TIRIO and TISAN, including Ribeirão da Ilha service.
  • Avoid scheduling Museu de Florianópolis or Tamar on Tuesday. The museum also lists closure on 2 November; reconfirm this exception for the 2026 holiday.
  • Arrange meals around published hours: Box 32 closes Sundays and earlier on Saturdays; Café do Museu has shorter weekend and holiday hours.
  • Before leaving for Costa da Lagoa, confirm boarding, disembarkation and return with Cooperbarco. Bring water and a snack.
  • Check Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa's calendar for your date. Free admission announced for 25 October 2026 excludes transport.
  • Check Ostradamus opening and arrange the visit through official contacts, especially if lunch is the southern day's main break.
  • If you include Folianópolis, confirm the organiser’s information and allow time to rest the next day. The announced event is for over-18s.
  • Check the forecast shortly before your trip to arrange the beach and boat days. The article’s photographs are archive images and do not show current conditions at the places pictured.
  • For spending estimates, include the total stay and add specific tickets and outings. The calculator provides references in reais, not quotations.

Questions to help you decide

Do the six days include arrival and departure?

This itinerary uses six full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. It combines the centre and the island's east, north and south without trying to include every beach. If flights occupy two of six available days, remove outings rather than compressing the programme.

Should I stay in the centre or Lagoa da Conceição?

For this itinerary, the centre is convenient for the historic outing and connections through TICEN. Lagoa da Conceição puts you near the area covered by the three days dedicated to Lagoa, Costa and Barra. Choose according to the journeys you will make, and check the accommodation’s exact address before booking.

Do I need to rent a car for the whole trip?

It is not obligatory: routes connect terminals and serve Ribeirão da Ilha, with boat transport to Costa da Lagoa too. For comfort, concentrate a car or hired transport on the fort–Santo Antônio and Peri–Ribeirão days. Check connections before deciding.

What if it rains?

Museu de Florianópolis and Tamar's visitor centre are concrete alternatives to swap with beach days. Both close Tuesdays according to checked information; the museum also lists 2 November closure. Check your visiting calendar before swapping.

How do I organise the Costa da Lagoa boat?

Cooperbarco lists boarding at Terminal Lacustre Ruth Bastos de Oliveira and trips to Costa da Lagoa. Directly confirm outbound times, disembarkation stop and return because online timetables predate the research.

Are there dated events I can fit in?

For dates near the research, free visiting is announced at Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa on 25 October 2026, with Folianópolis on 30 and 31 October and 1 November 2026. The museum also lists an exhibition from 3 August to 30 November 2026. These options depend on your trip dates.
