Córdoba in four days: courtyards, history and the river without a car
Four full days in Córdoba without a car: Mosque-Cathedral, Viana, Medina Azahara and Guadalquivir, with advice on where to stay and how to save.

GETTING STARTED
Divide four full days between the Mosque-Cathedral and Jewish Quarter, Viana and squares, Medina Azahara and finally art and the Guadalquivir. Choose accommodation around your routes, compare ticket options and decide on a bus pass only after counting journeys.
Who it is for: Brazilian travellers on a longer trip around Spain who want four full days in Córdoba without a car, combining heritage, courtyards, art and food while watching costs.Four full days, with each visit in the right place
Organise these four days around a simple idea: visit nearby places on the same outing and choose where admission genuinely adds something to your trip. Begin with the Mosque-Cathedral and Jewish Quarter, continue to Viana’s courtyards, set aside an outing for Medina Azahara and finish with art and a Guadalquivir walk.
These are four full days within a longer trip around Spain. Arrival, departure and international journeys are excluded. The order below is a suggestion: adjust days to attraction calendars, especially if your stay includes a Monday.
For arrival, compare rail connections with cities such as Madrid, Seville and Málaga. Municipal tourism lists different operators; check which serves your route. The bus station is opposite the railway station on Plaza de las Tres Culturas, a useful reference when locating accommodation.
Where to stay: choose around your visits
Choose where to stay by looking at the addresses you will use. An apparently lower room rate can lose its advantage if it entails several paid journeys; on the other hand, being near the station can greatly simplify arrival and departure.
The three bases below suit different priorities. None is presented as the cheapest: compare the specific accommodation, its booking conditions and this itinerary’s routes.
Before booking, locate the station, Mosque-Cathedral, Viana and Paseo de la Victoria departure point on a map. This small exercise helps show whether the address suits the trip you want.
- Jewish Quarter and Mosque-Cathedral area: our suggestion if you prioritise day-one monuments and want to explore this part of the city leisurely.
- Paseo de la Victoria: consider this base for the Medina Azahara departure and Mercado Victoria.
- Railway station area: useful if journeys with luggage influence your decision; compare routes to the sights before booking.
Where to avoid costs without losing the experience
Organise walking routes first, then decide about a bus pass. Aucorsa offers personal, non-transferable tourist cards for 24 or 72 consecutive hours, activated by use. Simply spending four days in the city does not make a card worthwhile: count your intended journeys and compare with single tickets.
Choose tickets separately too. At the Mosque-Cathedral, the free visiting period saves money but limits the time available. At Viana, visiting the courtyards is different from taking a guided tour inside the house. At Calahorra, the museum is an optional addition to the river walk rather than an automatic expense.
For Medina Azahara, check service components before paying. The transport publicised by municipal tourism already includes the connection between the car park and site entrance. Buying that segment again would be avoidable spending; do not assume admission and a guide are also included, however.
Day 1: Mosque-Cathedral and the layers of the Jewish Quarter
Begin at the Mosque-Cathedral and decide beforehand which visit suits you. Free individual access runs Monday to Saturday, 08:30–09:30, except for special services. At 09:20 entry ends and visitors begin leaving; groups are not admitted during this period.
It is a real saving, but the clock matters. If the Mosque-Cathedral is your main reason for travelling and you want longer to observe the interior, consider regular admission. You need not choose the free option merely because it exists.
Then walk through the Jewish Quarter to the synagogue at Calle Judíos, 20. Built in 1314–1315, it adds the entrance courtyard, vestibule and main room’s Mudéjar decoration to the day. Admission is free, and the managing body’s page lists Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–15:00, with exceptions: visit during the morning.
We suggest continuing around the Jewish Quarter in the afternoon without another timed ticket. This leaves room for both a longer visit to the Mosque-Cathedral and a more leisurely walk through the neighbourhood. If this day falls on a Monday, rearrange the itinerary to keep the synagogue visit.

The rhythm of columns and arches invites a leisurely look: consider this when choosing between the free period and regular admission.

On day two, go to Palacio de Viana at Plaza de don Gome, 2. Its twelve courtyards and garden bring a different pace from day one: notice the changes in space, vegetation and composition between areas. Naranjos, Recibo, Gatos and Madama are among the courtyards identified by the palace.
Choose admission according to your interests. Options cover the twelve courtyards and institutional area, a guided interior tour, or both combined. If courtyards are your main interest, you need not add the house impulsively; if you enjoy collections and historic interiors, allow time for the guided visit.
Then continue to Plaza de la Corredera, a rectangular 17th-century square with ground-floor arcades. Viana lists a distance of about 650 metres, a good reason to combine the stops on foot at your own pace. Observe the square’s layout and continue to Tendillas to complete the afternoon.
Viana’s calendar varies. For September to December 2026, the page lists Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–19:00 and Sundays and public holidays until 15:00, with exceptions. Check your date before fixing this day; do not rely on general free admission on Wednesdays.

Devote day three to leaving the centre for Medina Azahara, the 10th-century palace city associated with Abd al-Rahman III. The complex occupies three terraces beside Sierra Morena. After the first days’ interiors and courtyards, it expands the itinerary into the landscape and remains of a city.
Without a car, one option is the service publicised by municipal tourism, departing from Paseo de la Victoria beside the Hospital Cruz Roja roundabout and opposite Mercado Victoria. It includes return travel to the interpretation centre and the shuttle between the car park and site entrance.
We suggest combining historical interpretation with the walk through the ruins within the time allowed by your chosen transport. Check hours, admission conditions and scheduled return before buying. Do not plan around Salón Rico access: a historical description of the complex does not guarantee every space is available.
If you decide to stay in Córdoba, Centro Flamenco Fosforito on Plaza del Potro is a real morning alternative. In that case, keep Museo Julio Romero de Torres for day four to vary the experiences.

Medina Azahara takes the itinerary outside the centre; plan the outing around transport and the archaeological route.

After Medina Azahara, we suggest eating at Mercado Victoria, within the gardens on Paseo de la Victoria. The choice is practical: it stands opposite the departure landmark publicised for the outing, avoiding a cross-city trip just for a meal.
The market page lists café service from 09:00 and the food area from noon. If your booked bus leaves after the café opens and you have time, stop beforehand; otherwise, leave your meal until the return. Kitchens stop serving before the venue closes.
Check options and prices when choosing. A convenient place in the itinerary does not mean the cheapest meal. Afterwards, we suggest enjoying the surrounding gardens and leaving the rest of the day free of another ticketed visit.
Day 4: painting or flamenco, with lunch on Calle Lineros
Begin day four on Plaza del Potro at Museo Julio Romero de Torres. The collection follows the painter’s career and includes La Chiquita Piconera and Naranjas y limones, plus a section on his relationship with flamenco. It adds painting after three days focused on architecture, courtyards and archaeology.
If music interests you more, swap the museum for Centro Flamenco Fosforito in Posada del Potro at number 10 on the square. Its exhibition explores flamenco’s origins, evolution, instruments, artists and forms. An exhibition visit does not imply a live performance. Check your chosen attraction’s hours for the date; Museo Julio Romero de Torres’s current hours were not confirmed in the research.
For lunch before the river, we suggest Bodegas Campos at Calle Lineros, 32. Beyond its location, the interest lies in houses and courtyards from different periods in Axerquía, originally connected with ageing Montilla-Moriles wines.
The current reservations page lists lunch service every day, with varying times, and provides the menu. Use it to decide whether the meal suits your budget and whether to book. The recommendation reflects the setting and route without promising a particular dish or an inexpensive meal.
Finish by the Guadalquivir and Roman Bridge
After lunch, head to the Guadalquivir bank and Roman Bridge. River, Puerta del Puente and Mosque-Cathedral together give another perspective on the city you began exploring from inside on day one. We suggest allowing time at dusk to walk and cross the bridge.
At the southern end stands Torre de la Calahorra, housing Museo Vivo de al-Andalus, dedicated to Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures. It can be an extra visit if the theme interests you; check hours and admission beforehand, as these were not confirmed in the research.
If the Plaza del Potro museums have satisfied your museum interests, simply cross the bridge and view the tower from outside. The river outing is worthwhile in itself without adding every nearby attraction. The archive photograph shows the scenery from above but does not establish current access to Calahorra’s terrace.

Crossing the Roman Bridge rounds off day four after visits on Plaza del Potro.

If your trip coincides with the dates below, Viana can return to the itinerary in the evening. The palace confirmed El Burlador en Palacio, a roaming theatrical performance about Don Juan through some courtyards, entering from Plaza de don Gome. It offers the chance to see these spaces as a theatrical setting too.
The listed duration is about 70 minutes, without seats. It is an optional expense and an experience distinct from the daytime visit; check availability directly with the palace before rearranging the evening.
The municipal calendar was consulted on 22 October 2026, and the organiser confirmed this activity. For other travel dates, consult the official programme again: the entries found do not establish which other events will take place during your stay.
- 22, 23, 24 and 25 October 2026: performances at 20:30.
- 5, 6 and 7 November 2026: performances at 20:30.
- 8 November 2026: performance at 20:00.
Pack and budget for your itinerary
With visits chosen, open Mala Inteligente and enter the total length of your Spain trip, including arrival and departure. Select weather according to a forecast checked shortly before the trip and review the checklist for city walking, Medina Azahara and, if planned, Viana’s roaming theatre performance.
To control costs, we suggest separating accommodation, transport, chosen tickets and meals. Research prices for your own travel conditions before building an estimate in reais. Viajandar’s current calculator reference figures should not be used as Córdoba prices or exchange-rate conversion.
The best saving depends on the experience you want: skipping a little-used pass, choosing only Viana’s courtyards or viewing Calahorra from outside. Keep the visits that motivated the trip and remove duplicate purchases or services outside your route.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation in the Jewish Quarter or around the Mosque-Cathedral | Anyone who wants to begin at the Mosque-Cathedral and explore the Jewish Quarter easily. | It works well for day one; also compare the journey with luggage from the station and to the Medina Azahara departure point. The location does not guarantee a lower room rate. |
| Accommodation near Paseo de la Victoria | Anyone who values the Medina Azahara departure point and a meal stop at Mercado Victoria. | It suits day three well, but check the exact address in relation to the other visits. |
| Accommodation near the railway station | Anyone arriving or leaving by train who wants an easier journey with luggage. | The convenience on arrival needs to outweigh the daily journeys to the sights. |
| The Mosque-Cathedral’s free visiting period | Individual visitors happy with a shorter visit who can start early. | Monday to Saturday, 08:30–09:30, except for special services. At 09:20 admission ends and visitors begin leaving. |
| Regular Mosque-Cathedral ticket | Anyone who wants more time to explore the Mosque-Cathedral interior. | It adds a cost but may better suit your interest in the visit. Check services such as audio guides separately. |
| Palacio de Viana’s courtyard ticket | Anyone mainly interested in gardens and courtyards. | A guided visit inside the house is a different choice; buy the combined ticket only if you want both experiences. |
| Aucorsa’s 24- or 72-hour tourist card | Anyone with several bus journeys concentrated within one period. | Validity runs consecutively from first use. Compare it with single tickets after deciding your journeys; do not rely on it covering the separate Medina Azahara service. |
Your itinerary, ready to save
Day 1 — Mosque-Cathedral and Jewish Quarter
Begin at the Mosque-Cathedral, using the free period if it suits your interests and calendar. Walk through the Jewish Quarter to the synagogue at Calle Judíos, 20, still in the morning. Leave the afternoon for a leisurely Jewish Quarter walk without booking another attraction just to fill the day.
Prefer an alternative? For more time at the Mosque-Cathedral, choose the regular visit and keep time in the morning for the synagogue. If this falls on Monday, swap its position with another day: the synagogue lists opening Tuesday to Sunday.Day 2 — Palacio de Viana, Corredera and Tendillas
Devote the morning to Palacio de Viana’s courtyards on Plaza de don Gome. Then walk to Plaza de la Corredera to observe its arcades and rectangular shape. Continue to Tendillas, keeping the afternoon free of rigid timings. This sequence avoids hiring transport for every stop.
Prefer an alternative? If the house collections also interest you, choose Viana’s combined ticket and spend less time in the squares. On confirmed El Burlador en Palacio dates, the theatre can be an additional evening outing with a separate purchase.Day 3 — Medina Azahara and Mercado Victoria
Board the Medina Azahara service on Paseo de la Victoria at your reserved time. Combine the interpretation centre with the site walk and observe the scheduled return. Back in Córdoba, take a break at Mercado Victoria and enjoy its surrounding gardens, leaving the rest of the day without another compulsory ticket.
Prefer an alternative? If you decide against Medina Azahara, visit Centro Flamenco Fosforito on Plaza del Potro and keep Museo Julio Romero de Torres for day four. You lose the archaeological outing but gain a specific alternative within the city.Day 4 — Plaza del Potro and Guadalquivir
Begin at Museo Julio Romero de Torres after checking hours for your date. For lunch, we suggest Bodegas Campos at Calle Lineros, 32. Then head to the Guadalquivir bank, look at Puerta del Puente and cross the Roman Bridge. Allow time at dusk to enjoy the river scenery.
Prefer an alternative? Replace Museo Julio Romero de Torres with Centro Flamenco Fosforito if you prefer music. To explore al-Andalus history further, add Torre de la Calahorra before dusk after checking hours and admission. Before you go
- Allow four full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. Adjust the order to your actual travel dates.
- Check the Mosque-Cathedral calendar before relying on free admission; at 09:20 access ends and visitors begin leaving.
- Visit the synagogue in the morning: the page consulted lists Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–15:00, with exceptions and last admission ten minutes before closing. Groups larger than six must book.
- At Viana, check your ticket type and the calendar. For September to December 2026, the page lists Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–19:00 and Sundays and public holidays until 15:00, with exceptions.
- Before paying for Medina Azahara, check complex hours, admission conditions, boarding, return and transport inclusions. Do not buy the site connection again if it is already included.
- Confirm Museo Julio Romero de Torres hours and, if chosen, Calahorra’s. Do not infer access to the tower terrace from an archive photograph.
- Check Bodegas Campos’s menu and service for your meal. Mercado Victoria’s kitchens stop serving before the venue closes.
- For El Burlador en Palacio, check the 2026 date and availability directly with Palacio de Viana. The performance moves between spaces and has no seats.
- Compare accommodation by address, booking conditions and total transport cost, without assuming an area is cheaper.
- Use the whole trip duration in Mala Inteligente and select weather based on a forecast checked shortly before departure.
Questions to help you decide
Do the four days include arrival and departure?
This itinerary organises four sightseeing days within a longer trip around Spain. Arrival, departure and international journeys are excluded. It brings together the places covered here without trying to see the whole city.
Can I follow the itinerary without hiring a car?
Yes. The plan groups central walks together, uses Aucorsa for support and takes the service publicised by municipal tourism to Medina Azahara. Check your accommodation’s address before deciding how many bus journeys you need.
How does free admission to the Mosque-Cathedral work?
Free individual visits run Monday to Saturday, 08:30–09:30, except for special services. At 09:20 entry ends and visitors begin leaving. Groups are not admitted during this period, and the limited time may justify a regular ticket.
Is a bus pass worthwhile for all four days?
Not automatically. Aucorsa offers cards for 24 or 72 consecutive hours, activated by use. As several visits are grouped for walking, count planned journeys before comparing a pass with single tickets.
Does the Medina Azahara bus include the whole visit?
The service described by municipal tourism includes return transport to the interpretation centre and the connection to the site entrance. This description does not establish that admission or a guided visit is included. Check the components of your purchase and the scheduled return.
Does the Viana show replace a visit to all twelve courtyards?
No. El Burlador en Palacio moves through some courtyards in a theatrical performance. Daytime visits have separate options for courtyards and house interiors; choose each experience for what you want to see.
