GETTING STARTED

Compare the Hotel Sectors for their central position and Asa Sul for its address within the residential blocks, adding room rates and transport. Allow three days, excluding arrival and departure: Esplanada; Igrejinha, Beirute and Pontão; and CCBB. Until 1 November 2026, the Banco do Brasil Art Collection in the morning and Yoshitaka Amano in the afternoon fill the cultural day, with a garden break.

Who it is for: Travellers wanting to explore Brasília’s architecture, culture and lake in three sightseeing days, choosing accommodation by location and keeping transport costs under control.

Where to stay: count room rates and transport together

For this itinerary, begin looking for accommodation in Setor Hoteleiro Norte and Sul and include Asa Sul in the comparison. The Hotel Sectors surround the central area; Asa Sul brings you closer to the residential blocks. The best address combines an affordable room rate with convenient routes for the outings.

Compare specific accommodation options in Setor Hoteleiro Norte and Setor Hoteleiro Sul. Take each accommodation’s address and check journeys to Esplanada, the National Library, where the CCBB shuttle departs, and Igrejinha. A small room-rate saving can lose its appeal if it adds more rides or connections every day.

In Asa Sul, look closely at the block. Igrejinha at 307/308 and Beirute at 109 Sul are good reference points if you want to enjoy this part of the city. To decide, add routes to Lago Sul and CCBB too: they remain part of the trip even when staying near the blocks you want to explore.

Group outings to avoid backtracking

A good way to control spending in Brasília is to avoid repeated journeys. On the Asa Sul and lake day, for example, leave for Igrejinha, pause to eat and continue straight to Pontão. Returning to your room between stops adds another journey to the bill.

Use DF no Ponto to check journeys by address, beginning with the airport and accommodation. For Congress, official guidance combines the metro to Rodoviária do Plano Piloto with buses to Praça dos Três Poderes, including routes 108, 108.3 and 108.5. Check operation on your visiting date. To leave the airport, choose a service with confirmed current operation; do not rely on the former executive route 113.

For legs where you consider ride-hailing, compare the fare shown at that moment with public transport and divide it by the number of people. At CCBB, there is a practical choice: arrive by another means in the morning for two exhibitions or use the free shuttle from 13:00 for a shorter visit.

  • Esplanada: National Congress, Praça dos Três Poderes and Cathedral in the same outing.
  • Asa Sul and lake: Igrejinha, surrounding blocks and Beirute before continuing to Pontão.
  • CCBB: Banco do Brasil Art Collection in the morning, Yoshitaka Amano in the afternoon and a garden break while the exhibition is running.

Set the order around bookings and the calendar

Allow three days for this urban selection, excluding arrival and departure. You will explore Esplanada’s architecture, stroll through Asa Sul’s residential blocks, walk beside Lake Paranoá and devote an outing to art at CCBB. It is a good combination for discovering these sides of Brasília without trying to cover the entire Federal District.

Begin by booking Congress. Regular visits run Mondays, Fridays, weekends and holidays, 09:00–17:00. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are closed; Thursdays are reserved for educational institutions. A Friday, Saturday and Sunday allow Esplanada, Asa Sul with the lake and CCBB in that order, subject to places.

Day three begins with the Banco do Brasil Art Collection and continues with Yoshitaka Amano — Além da Fantasia, on display until 1 November 2026, plus a garden break. This provides morning and afternoon outings. After the temporary exhibition, keep the collection and gardens and check the programme: this trip may take less time.

If booking Congress for Monday, move the Cathedral to the morning of the CCBB day, since the church lists Tuesday-to-Sunday visits. In this arrangement, the Cathedral replaces the Art Collection in the morning; Thursday to Sunday, you can continue to CCBB on the shuttle departing from the National Library from 13:00.

Day 1: Congress and Praça dos Três Poderes

Make the National Congress your timed commitment on the Esplanada day. The route takes in halls and plenary chambers according to legislative activity, adding an interior experience to the building familiar from Brasília images. Book first and fit the other stops around that time.

On the same outing, explore Praça dos Três Poderes. Walk around the outdoor space and observe the relationship between the buildings without relying on entering other institutions. Then continue to the Cathedral; planning that leg beforehand helps keep Esplanada visits together.

Bring photo ID for visitors over 12 and check weekday dress rules. If you cannot secure a place, keep the exterior Congress and Praça dos Três Poderes outing. Really want to see the halls and chambers? Look for another available day within your stay and rearrange the outings.

Complete Esplanada with the Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral completes Esplanada’s architectural outing. Begin by observing the building’s curves outside, then enter the church. If your Congress booking is in the afternoon, consider reversing the sequence and visiting the Cathedral in the morning.

Published visiting hours are Tuesday to Friday, 08:00–16:45; Saturdays, 08:00–16:30; Sundays, 09:00–17:30. Visits end 30 minutes before services, so avoid arriving at the limit. For a guided visit, confirm by email and consider the financial contribution indicated by the church.

There are bus stops on Esplanada and L2 Sul, and the Cathedral is approximately 1 km from Rodoviária do Plano Piloto. Use those references to check arrival and departure. The Cathedral–Congress route is another leg: check it separately to decide how much you want to walk.

Day 2: Igrejinha, residential blocks and lunch at Beirute

After Esplanada’s monumental scale, begin day two at Igrejinha Nossa Senhora de Fátima, EQS 307/308. Opened on 28 June 1958, it invites attention to details: the roof, the church’s size and Athos Bulcão’s exterior tiles. Continue through blocks 307 and 308 Sul for a glimpse of the city’s residential design.

The stop is worthwhile just for observing the exterior. To enter outside services, contact the parish; office hours are not tourist visiting hours. When looking up the address, choose Igrejinha at 307/308, since Santuário de Fátima at 906 Sul is elsewhere.

For lunch, continue to Beirute at 109 Sul, block A. The bar and restaurant traces its origins there to 1966, adding a stop with history to the block walk. Check dining-room service and menus before going; the choice reflects location and history without promising low prices.

From Asa Sul, continue straight to Pontão do Lago Sul by motorised transport. Lunch at Beirute leaves the afternoon free for a waterside walk. If you prefer eating at the lake, Soho inside Pontão is the alternative for reorganising that break.

Spend the afternoon beside Lake Paranoá

Keep the afternoon for a change of scenery at Pontão do Lago Sul, SHIS QL 10, lot 1/30. The waterfront is 1.2 km long, but you can walk only part of it, pause and enjoy Lake Paranoá’s view. After Asa Sul’s blocks, this is the time to slow down.

Plan travel from Asa Sul and back to your accommodation before setting off. The complex lists hours of 07:00–00:00 Sunday to Thursday and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. For this itinerary, enjoy the afternoon and choose your return according to available transport without needing to stay until closing.

If leaving the meal for the lake, consider Soho. Pontão’s page presents Japanese cuisine, international options and outdoor tables. The practical attraction is eating in the place you are already visiting; check the menu to see whether the approach and prices fit your budget.

Day 3: two exhibitions and a break in CCBB’s gardens

Begin day three at CCBB with the Banco do Brasil Art Collection, listed as permanent in the official programme. It provides a morning activity before the afternoon’s temporary exhibition. The cultural centre regularly opens Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–21:00; check collection access conditions for your date.

To arrive in the morning, check buses 0.103 and 103.2 from Rodoviária on DF no Ponto or compare a ride-hailing fare. The free shuttle leaves the National Library only from 13:00. You can still use it to return Thursday to Sunday, choosing your time in advance.

In the afternoon, until 1 November 2026, visit Yoshitaka Amano — Além da Fantasia. The exhibition occupies galleries 3 and 5 and Pavilhão de Vidro, bringing illustration and fantasy into a trip that began with architecture. Admission is free with a ticket collected beforehand; arrange entry before finalising return transport.

Pause in the gardens between visits. CCBB also has drinking fountains, useful for a day spent largely away from your accommodation. Leave a margin between finishing the exhibition and shuttle departure to enjoy this part without rushing.

If the Cathedral was left out of the Esplanada day, visit it this morning and continue to CCBB in the afternoon, replacing the Art Collection. After 1 November, keep the collection and gardens in your plans and check what else is on. If no other exhibition interests you, enjoy a shorter visit.

  • Outward shuttle: National Library–CCBB, Thursday to Sunday, on the hour between 13:00 and 20:00.
  • Return shuttle: CCBB–National Library, Thursday to Sunday, hourly between 13:30 and 21:30.
  • The service is free, has ten seats and requires choosing a time, subject to capacity.

In October 2026, combine CCBB with a performance

Visiting Brasília in October 2026? CCBB Celebra Brasília offers a free programme on 9, 10, 11, 12, 17 and 18 October. For a family trip, Splash Bolhas is an option to combine with the exhibition. Seu Estrelo and Funfarra Me Chama pelo Nome also offer ways to add a performance to your day of art.

Choose the attraction before setting return travel and adjust the exhibition time to enjoy both activities. The Monday performance on 12 October 2026 is exceptional: confirm gallery access separately and organise different transport, since regular shuttle operation runs Thursday to Sunday.

For trips after those dates, use the official programme to choose temporary activities and keep the Banco do Brasil Art Collection as a reference for the visit.

  • Yoshitaka Amano — Além da Fantasia: 17 July–1 November 2026, Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–21:00, free admission with a ticket collected beforehand.
  • Delírio Circense — Splash Bolhas: 10 and 11 October 2026 at 15:00, at CCBB Celebra Brasília.
  • Seu Estrelo: 12 October 2026 at 17:00, at CCBB Celebra Brasília.
  • Funfarra Me Chama pelo Nome: 17 October 2026 at 17:00, at CCBB Celebra Brasília.

Turn the itinerary into a budget and checklist

Before booking accommodation, simulate the trip in Calculadora de Viagem using destination, total duration, people and travel style. It presents an estimate in reais for accommodation, food and transport, with a 15% margin. Use the figures as illustrative references and compare them with prices found for your stay; the result is not a quotation.

To decide between the Hotel Sectors and Asa Sul, note each accommodation total and add this itinerary’s journeys. Include the airport, Pontão, morning arrival at CCBB and the journey from the National Library after the shuttle. This shows how location helps the overall bill.

In Mala Inteligente, enter the duration including arrival and departure and select climate and traveller profiles to generate the checklist. Review photo ID, walking shoes and clothes suitable for religious and institutional visits.

Want to extend the trip? Viajandar’s Brasília page brings together city information and local service categories for further exploration. Use it to find useful places to research, then confirm the conditions directly with the services you choose.

Which option suits you?

OptionA good fit if…What to consider

Setor Hoteleiro SulYou prefer accommodation in the central area, with the Cathedral, Congress and National Library among the itinerary’s reference points.Check the route from the exact address to transport stops before paying more for location.
Asa SulYou want the residential blocks to be part of your day-to-day experience and to enjoy the area around Igrejinha and Beirute at 109 Sul.The area is large: the block you choose greatly changes journeys to Esplanada, Lago Sul and CCBB.

Your itinerary, ready to save

Day 1 — Congress and Praça dos Três Poderes in the morning

Begin at the National Congress at your booked time and use the same outing to explore Praça dos Três Poderes. Plan arrival with DF no Ponto; official Congress directions indicate a connection via Rodoviária do Plano Piloto.

Prefer an alternative? If you cannot book admission to Congress, observe the exterior and stroll through Praça dos Três Poderes. If you secure a booking on another day during your stay, rearrange the outings.

Day 1 — Cathedral in the afternoon

Continue to the Metropolitan Cathedral, observe the exterior architecture and enter during visiting hours. Respect the break before services and avoid returning to your accommodation between Esplanada stops.

Prefer an alternative? If Congress availability is only in the afternoon, visit the Cathedral in the morning and reverse the sequence. If the legislative visit falls on Monday, move the Cathedral to the morning of the CCBB day.

Day 2 — Igrejinha, residential blocks and Beirute in the morning and at lunch

Begin at Igrejinha Nossa Senhora de Fátima, EQS 307/308, and walk through surrounding blocks to explore Brasília’s residential design. Then pause to eat at Beirute, 109 Sul, block A, after checking dining-room service.

Prefer an alternative? Without tourist entry to Igrejinha, view the roof and tiles from outside and continue around blocks 307 and 308 Sul.

Day 2 — Pontão do Lago Sul in the afternoon

Travel from Asa Sul to Pontão by motorised transport and walk along part of Lake Paranoá’s shore. Plan the return to your accommodation so you can enjoy the afternoon without an intermediate trip to your room.

Prefer an alternative? If you prefer lunch beside the lake, check Soho’s menu at Pontão itself and move the meal planned for Beirute there.

Day 3 — Banco do Brasil Art Collection in the morning

Begin at CCBB, which regularly opens at 09:00, and visit the Banco do Brasil Art Collection, listed as permanent in the official programme. Check access conditions and arrive on bus 0.103 or 103.2 from Rodoviária after checking operation, or by ride-hailing: the free shuttle starts only in the afternoon.

Prefer an alternative? If the Cathedral was left out on day one, visit this morning, Tuesday to Sunday. Thursday to Sunday, combine this swap with a shuttle departure from the National Library from 13:00 and leave the Art Collection for another visit.

Day 3 — Yoshitaka Amano, gardens and return in the afternoon

Until 1 November 2026, continue with Yoshitaka Amano — Além da Fantasia in galleries 3 and 5 and Pavilhão de Vidro, collecting the free ticket beforehand. Pause in the gardens between visits. Thursday to Sunday, choose a return shuttle time to the National Library, subject to availability.

Prefer an alternative? After 1 November 2026, keep the Banco do Brasil Art Collection and gardens. Without another exhibition you want to see, take a shorter CCBB outing. To return without the shuttle, check buses on DF no Ponto.

Questions to help you decide

Is it better to stay in the Hotel Sectors or Asa Sul?

Start with Setor Hoteleiro Norte and Sul if you want a central base. Include Asa Sul if you want to enjoy residential blocks and find an address with good connections to the outings. Compare total accommodation costs with the journeys each option requires.

How do I choose between Setor Hoteleiro Norte and Sul?

The choice depends more on the address and room rate than the sector’s name. Look up routes to Esplanada, the National Library and Igrejinha on DF no Ponto to compare options.

Can I follow this itinerary without hiring a car?

You can organise outings by combining public transport, the CCBB shuttle and ride-hailing when worthwhile. Pay particular attention to the outward and return Pontão journeys and reaching CCBB in the morning.

Do the three days cover the whole Federal District?

No. They are three urban sightseeing days, with arrival and departure counted separately. Until 1 November 2026, day three combines the Banco do Brasil Art Collection in the morning, the Yoshitaka Amano exhibition in the afternoon and CCBB’s gardens. After that period, the cultural-centre visit may be shorter, depending on the programme.

Do I need to book the Congress visit?

Yes. Book before deciding the day order. The indoor route can change according to legislative activity; without a place, you can still view the exterior and explore Praça dos Três Poderes.

Can the free shuttle get me to CCBB in the morning?

No. It operates Thursday to Sunday and departs from the National Library from 13:00. To start the day at CCBB, check buses 0.103 and 103.2 or compare a ride-hailing fare. You can choose the shuttle for your return, subject to availability.

Where can I fit a meal into the Asa Sul and lake day?

Beirute at 109 Sul fits with Igrejinha and the residential blocks. If you prefer eating during the lakeside outing, consider Soho at Pontão itself. Choose between them by their approach and menu as well as location.

Where can I enjoy free options on this itinerary?

The CCBB shuttle is free under the published conditions. Yoshitaka Amano has free admission with a ticket collected beforehand, and CCBB Celebra Brasília offers a free programme on the listed dates. Budget separately for food and other journeys.
