Brazil · Belém, Pará, with a Combu Island outing
Five days in Belém: markets, parks, local flavours and Combu Island
Five full days in Belém with Ver-o-Peso, museums, Mangal, Goeldi, Utinga and Combu, with food breaks, rest and practical alternatives.

GETTING STARTED
Five full days to explore Belém’s markets, museums and parks, taste regional flavours and visit Combu. Arrival and departure are excluded, and the outings leave room for meals and rest.
Who it is for: First-time visitors to Belém who want to combine culture, markets, nature and Pará flavours, with breaks and comfort without relying on luxury.Five sightseeing days with room to breathe
Belém offers a trip of markets, art, biodiversity and river outings, and you can bring all of these together without rushing from one attraction to another. Over these five days, you begin at Ver-o-Peso, alternate museums and parks, and finish by crossing to Combu. Breaks at your accommodation are part of the itinerary.
These are five full sightseeing days, excluding arrival and departure. The itinerary fills this period without claiming to cover all of Belém. The order presented works from Wednesday to Sunday; if your dates differ, adjust the schedule around opening days first and keep visits that combine well together.
- Schedule Goeldi for a day between Wednesday and Sunday.
- Visit Mangal and the Secult museums between Tuesday and Sunday.
- Visit Utinga on any day except Tuesday; Monday is an option.
- If lunch at Porto Combu is a priority, schedule the island for Saturday or Sunday.
Day 1: Ver-o-Peso, Mercado Francisco Bolonha and the fort
Begin at Ver-o-Peso and Mercado de Carne Francisco Bolonha. The food, crafts and religious goods offer an introduction to the city’s commerce. Look at the buildings and quay too: the visit’s appeal lies in this combination of market, architecture and port life. Renovation of the complex was completed in January 2026; this page’s archive photograph shows an earlier period.
Then continue to Forte do Presépio at Praça Dom Frei Caetano Brandão. The fortification’s remains and the circuit on Amazon occupation and colonisation help contextualise the landscape you have just explored. Concentrate the cultural visit there and save Casa das Onze Janelas for the following morning.
If the weather disrupts the outdoor walk, go to Museu do Círio on Rua Padre Champagnat to explore popular devotion. The fort and Museu do Círio list opening hours of Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00. After these first visits, take a break before returning to the waterfront.

The quay adds the port dimension to the Ver-o-Peso walk; also allow time to explore the market.

To finish the first day, go to Estação das Docas. The complex occupies the former port and combines around 500 metres of waterfront, food and shops. Walk before sitting down to eat: this makes the meal part of the outing without requiring another change of neighbourhood.
Amazon Beer is a meal option within the complex. Afterwards, stop at Cairu to explore regional flavours in ice cream form. The business works with ingredients such as cupuaçu, bacuri, taperebá, açaí and tapioca; see which flavours are available at the counter and choose whichever sparks your curiosity most. Check individual opening hours before leaving.
If the first day has already been full, choose only the meal or the ice cream and finish there. You will return to Docas for other breaks in the itinerary, so you do not need to explore everything at once.

On the morning of the second day, visit Casa das Onze Janelas on Rua Siqueira Mendes. The space brings together modern and contemporary art and photography: a change of subject after the fort’s historical circuit. Published visiting hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00.
For lunch, pause at Tio Armênio in Estação das Docas. This address combines the meal with the former port’s waterfront, letting you explore any stretch missed the previous day. It adds a detour between Casa das Onze Janelas and Mangal; fit lunch before the break at your accommodation and check service hours.
In the afternoon, explore Mangal das Garças via Cavername and da Ponta lakes and Mirante do Rio, with a walkway over the floodplain. Farol de Belém can also form part of the visit. Choose your stops without rushing and check which supervised attractions charge separately.
Memorial Amazônico da Navegação within Mangal adds stories about the region’s relationship with rivers. Check its opening hours before counting on a visit. The park lists opening hours of Tuesday to Sunday and holidays, 08:00–18:00.
Would you prefer a day devoted to museums? Combine Casa das Onze Janelas in the morning with Museu do Círio in the afternoon. In that case, Mangal can take the free afternoon of the fourth day, provided it is not Monday.

Devote the morning to the zoobotanical park at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, Avenida Magalhães Barata, 376, São Brás. The visit brings together Amazonian biodiversity and scientific research. Consult the visitor map to organise your route and enjoy the park as a whole, without making the experience depend on finding a particular animal.
Published hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00–16:00. First choose a day for Goeldi, then arrange the other outings around it.
Then continue to observe the architecture of Mercado de São Brás, which combines Neoclassical and Art Nouveau references. The rehabilitation recorded in May 2026 adds a recent chapter to the building’s history. Here, the idea is to look at the building and its details, extending the morning in the neighbourhood.
For your meal, continue to Docas and take a break at Amazon Beer. You will have another journey, but can end the outings in a familiar complex with room for a waterfront walk if you still feel like it. Check the restaurant’s hours and return to your accommodation after eating: the afternoon is free for rest.
Day 4: Utinga in the morning, rest afterwards
Keep the morning of the fourth day for Parque Estadual do Utinga. Walking is the main suggestion; if you enjoy cycling, confirm the bicycle service in advance. This is a day to enjoy the park without fitting in a sequence of museums immediately afterwards.
Utinga also offers trails, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and Memorial dos Povos Originários da Amazônia Verônica Tembé. If one of these activities interests you, confirm the arrangements and availability before the visit. The park lists opening hours of 06:00 to 17:00 and closes on Tuesdays for maintenance.
Allow time for lunch and rest afterwards. Later, a short outing to Cairu on Avenida José Malcher in Nazaré offers a chance to try another regional flavour. Cupuaçu, bacuri and taperebá are among the ingredients used by the ice cream shop; your choice depends on what is available at the counter.
If your trip coincides with 17 or 18 October 2026, the musical Sonho Encantado de Cordel at Theatro da Paz can fill the end of the day. See the sessions below and choose a time before arranging this outing.
Day 5: Combu, chocolate and a planned crossing
The fifth day changes the pace of the trip: it is time to cross to Combu, an island and environmental protection area belonging to the municipality of Belém. Praça Princesa Isabel is one of the access points. Before choosing a boat, define your destination on the island: a crossing to an establishment and a chartered outing are different services.
For those who want someone to organise and accompany the trip, Estação Gabiraba advertises a day trip from Praça Princesa Isabel, with return river transport and a visit to Dona Nena’s property. It combines artisanal chocolate production, local vegetation and a snack prepared by the family. It is a chance to connect what you eat with the land and riverside life.
Confirm departure, the time spent there and included food before booking. The outing does not automatically include lunch at another restaurant. Avoid scheduling a tightly timed activity immediately after returning: keep this day devoted to the island.
If riverside lunch is your priority, Porto Combu is an alternative for Saturday or Sunday. The restaurant presents Amazonian cuisine and publishes à la carte lunch from 11:00 to 16:00 on those days; Monday to Friday, it lists private events. Arrange reservations, landing and return. To combine Porto Combu and Dona Nena, confirm feasibility with the providers, as this combination is not automatically part of the advertised outing.
If travelling in October 2026, check these dates
The official programme consulted on 15/10/2026 offers three possibilities for anyone in Belém on the dates below. Choose the one that suits your trip and replace an itinerary outing while preserving rest.
At Theatro da Paz, Sonho Encantado de Cordel brings a young cordel writer closer to Hans Christian Andersen’s universe. Suitable for all ages, it is a suggestion for families and can fit after an afternoon break. Check ticket availability before organising the evening.
At Museu das Amazônias, the cassava-themed Roteirinho connects with the trip’s markets and flavours; if you are in the city on 16 October 2026, it can replace the morning walk in Utinga. Kamishibai Encantado on 30 October 2026 adds an Amazonian storytelling experience in the late afternoon.
Both Museu das Amazônias activities take place on the veranda; this programme does not establish that the indoor galleries are open for visits. For trips on other dates, consult an up-to-date programme before including a show.
- 16/10/2026, 10:00: the cassava-themed Roteirinho on the veranda of Museu das Amazônias, with free registration on site.
- 17/10/2026, 20:00, and 18/10/2026, 16:00 and 19:00: Sonho Encantado de Cordel, O Musical at Theatro da Paz, all ages.
- 30/10/2026, 17:30: Kamishibai Encantado, free of charge, on the veranda of Museu das Amazônias, inspired by the legend of Cobra Grande.

To choose accommodation, use the outings as reference points on the map. If you expect to return to Docas for dinner, compare addresses in Campina and the journey to the complex. If you prefer a base in Nazaré, use Avenida José Malcher as one reference and check journeys to Ver-o-Peso, Goeldi and the departure point for Combu.
As several days include accommodation breaks, an address making those returns easier may be worth more to you than a long list of services. Before booking, directly confirm comforts that matter, such as air conditioning, breakfast, a lift and luggage storage.
The airport lists services from a taxi association and cooperative, as well as buses and car hire companies. For arrivals with luggage and journeys between areas, we suggest taxis for comfort. Check the fare and allow extra time between commitments. River transport to Combu must be arranged separately.
From the itinerary to a checklist and budget
With dates organised, open Mala Inteligente and enter the full duration, including arrival and departure, plus the climate and traveller profiles. Turn the result into a checklist and adapt it for the Goeldi and Utinga walks, Combu crossing and theatre outing if it forms part of the trip.
In Calculadora de Custos de Viagem, enter Belém, total days, number of people and travel style. The tool presents an estimate in reais for accommodation, food and transport with a 15% margin, using reference values. Compare the result with amounts checked directly for accommodation, journeys, Combu and your chosen attractions. The simulation helps planning; it is not a quotation.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ver-o-Peso, Mercado Francisco Bolonha and Forte do Presépio | Explore the city’s commerce, architecture and history in one day. | Schedule the fort between Tuesday and Sunday. Leave Casa das Onze Janelas for the next day so the walk feels less rushed. |
| Casa das Onze Janelas, Docas lunch and Mangal das Garças | Combine art, a Docas break and floodplain scenery. | Lunch adds a detour. Some Mangal attractions charge separately. |
| Museu Goeldi and Mercado de São Brás | Connect Amazon biodiversity, science and architecture. | Goeldi opens Wednesday to Sunday. The suggested meal at Docas requires another journey. |
| Utinga State Park in the morning | Walk and keep part of the day for rest. | Closed Tuesdays; bicycles and contracted activities need separate confirmation. |
| Combu with Estação Gabiraba and a visit to Dona Nena’s property | Learn about artisanal chocolate production with river transport arranged. | Confirm departure. The advertised snack does not include lunch at a restaurant. |
| Porto Combu on Saturday or Sunday | Make riverside lunch the outing’s focus. | Requires booking and an arranged crossing; weekdays are listed for private events. |
