GETTING STARTED

The city centre makes a worthwhile base for this itinerary: museums and Ficções at Fenata on Friday, Vila Velha on Saturday and Buraco do Padre on Sunday. It covers three full days, from 13 to 15 November 2026, excluding arrival and departure, with meal breaks and alternative walking routes.

Who it is for: Travellers who want to use central Ponta Grossa as a base for combining museums, parks, meal breaks and an evening at the theatre over three full days.

The city centre as a base: culture on Friday and one park each day

Yes, it is worth it: for this combination, we suggest staying in the city centre and keeping the same accommodation throughout your trip. You devote one day to museums and theatre, another to Vila Velha and another to Buraco do Padre. The centre serves as a base to return to; the parks still require separate journeys.

This itinerary runs from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November 2026, with three full days of sightseeing. Arrival and departure are not included in that count. It is a selection of cultural and natural attractions for exploring part of Ponta Grossa at a relaxed pace, without attempting to cover the entire destination.

When choosing accommodation, check its address in relation to Museu Campos Gerais, Estação Saudade and Cine-Teatro Ópera. A listing that says “city centre” does not guarantee that every journey will be convenient on foot. If you have a car, check the parking arrangements too. Viajandar’s city guide can help you continue your search for accommodation; the recommendation here concerns location, without suggesting a particular hotel.

Friday begins with history at Museu Campos Gerais

Start Friday at Museu Campos Gerais, a university history museum affiliated with UEPG. It offers an introduction to the region’s past before your nature outings. The institution’s website directs visitors to Rua Engenheiro Schamber, 686, in the city centre, and states that individual visits to the exhibitions do not require advance booking. The Ibram listing records its activities as free of charge.

The published opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 11:45 and from 13:30 to 17:00. Visiting in the morning leaves the afternoon free for Estação Saudade and Centro de Cultura. If you prefer to reverse the order, the museum’s 13:30 reopening lets you fit it in after the station, provided you confirm the station’s opening hours.

At Rua Dr. Collares, 436, Centro de Cultura adds another historic building to the outing. According to the municipal website, it houses Galeria João Pilarski and spaces for exhibitions and performances, with visiting hours from Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 19:00. Set aside part of the afternoon to explore the venue and see what is on; the research did not confirm a specific temporary exhibition for these dates.

Estação Saudade: railway heritage and a café break

After Museu Campos Gerais, head to Estação Saudade and visit Museu Ferroviário Francisco Búrzio. Sesc confirms that it holds historic objects and donated items connected to Ponta Grossa’s railway heritage. It is a way to bring railway history into the outing, as well as viewing the building from outside. Admission is free, and guided visits can be booked.

Continue along the restored platform, described by Sesc as a passageway and exhibition space. The benches and Café-Escola Senac provide a reason to slow down between the museums and Centro de Cultura. We suggest stopping here for coffee, without counting on a full lunch: the current page confirms the café’s presence but does not provide a menu or list available dishes.

Leave some spare time in the late afternoon to return to your accommodation before Fenata. That way, coffee and the platform visit need not turn into a rush to reach the theatre.

An evening at Fenata, with a confirmed performance and date

Friday evening offers a specific choice: Ficções, starring Vera Holtz, opens the 54th Fenata on 13 November 2026 at 20:00 in Auditorium A of Cine-Teatro Ópera. According to UEPG, the production draws on Sapiens by Yuval Harari to explore human narratives and beliefs. It is an interesting complement to a day of history and leaves the weekend available for the parks.

The organisers’ latest programme confirms that the festival runs from 13 to 17 November 2026, with 60 performances, more than half of them free. This does not mean that the opening performance is free or that seats are still available. Check availability for your chosen performance and obtain a ticket; UEPG states that tickets are also issued for free performances.

If Ficções does not fit your plans, the programme lists Dez em Cena on 14 and 15 November 2026 at 22:00 in Auditorium B, as well as a performance on the 16th. For this itinerary, Saturday or Sunday are possible alternatives, but they call for a break at your accommodation after the park. The municipal events calendar check was inconclusive; these performances are confirmed by UEPG’s official pages.

Saturday at Vila Velha: Arenitos, lunch and Furnas

Set aside Saturday for Vila Velha State Park, accessed via the BR-376. Start with Arenitos: the Bota and Taça formations, identified by Instituto Água e Terra, provide specific landmarks for the visit. Choose your route length before you start walking; the park offers different routes, and you do not need to take the longest one to include Taça.

For lunch, we suggest Restaurante Girassol at the Visitor Centre, identified on the IAT page. This stop keeps your meal within the park visit and provides a break between Arenitos and the other areas. Confirm service on the day; no current menu or prices have been verified for this article.

Afterwards, combine Furnas and Lagoa Dourada using the internal transport described by IAT. The operator describes the lagoon as a silted-up sinkhole, connected to the others by groundwater. This relationship helps explain why it is worth visiting alongside Furnas, without relying on finding a particular water colour or clarity.

The Lagoa Dourada trail may close temporarily if the lagoon overflows. If that happens, keep Arenitos and Furnas in your plans, subject to what is authorised to operate that day. The park’s published hours are 09:00 to 17:00, Wednesday to Monday and on public holidays; check the schedules within the park to spread out your visit without leaving the final attraction until just before closing.

  • Arenitos and Bosque: the full route is 2,671 m, for those who want to spend more of the first part of the day walking.
  • Arenitos: this 1,100 m alternative does not add the entire Bosque circuit.
  • Taça: the short 150 m access route offers a specific option for reducing the amount of walking.
  • Furnas and Lagoa Dourada: the trails are 500 m and 400 m respectively, combined with internal transport between the areas.

Sunday at Buraco do Padre, with lunch at Geo

On Sunday, give Buraco do Padre a day of its own. The operator describes the sinkhole as a vertical cavity approximately 40 m high, which can be visited at its base and from the upper viewpoints. Start at the base at the time booked when purchasing your ticket: this reservation should determine when you leave the city centre and the order of your other activities.

Trilha Principal connects the entrance to the sinkhole along an 880 m route, with gravel sections and wooden walkways. A drinking-water point is listed along the way. The operator describes this route as accessible, but that information does not extend to the climbs to the viewpoints or to Fenda da Freira.

Our lunch suggestion is Restaurante Geo, inside the park. Its current page confirms regional cuisine, an indoor dining area and a souvenir shop; the map lists a buffet from 11:30 to 15:00 on weekends and public holidays. It is a break that avoids leaving the park just to eat. Reconfirm service for your visit date, without counting on a particular dish.

After lunch, include the stingless bee apiary, marked on the map as housing native stingless bees. Trilha Principal, the sinkhole, Geo and the apiary make up the less strenuous version of this day. It leaves time to take in your surroundings and rest, without making the climb to the viewpoints obligatory.

The sinkhole visit has a booked time slot that shapes the order of Sunday’s activities at Buraco do Padre.

Fenda da Freira: an addition for those who want to walk further

Would you like to add a more demanding walk to Sunday? Fenda da Freira is a 300 m cavity with a narrow passage between rock walls. Visits have a booked time slot and are accompanied by a guide, so they need to be coordinated in advance with entry to the sinkhole and your lunch break at Geo.

Access is via Trilha do Favo, with a steep climb, steps, stairways and obstacles. The operator states that the route is not accessible, sets a minimum age of six and publishes other participation restrictions. Check these conditions before booking.

If that level of exertion does not suit your trip, stick to the sinkhole via Trilha Principal and round out the day with the stingless bee apiary and Geo. The upper viewpoints also involve a steep climb: they are another option requiring exertion, not an automatically easy substitute for Fenda da Freira.

Plan your journeys and leave room for adjustments

A car is suggested for convenience on the two park days, as it lets you organise departures and returns from your accommodation. On the city sightseeing day, choose how to get around based on where you are staying, without assuming you will need to drive between every venue. If you are travelling without a car, arrange transport to and from the parks in advance; this research did not verify public transport routes or timetables to recommend.

For Buraco do Padre, confirm conditions on the access route through the Itaiacoca area. A state news report dated 3 June 2026 records roadworks along 5.3 km between the PR-513 and the park entrance, with completion expected in December 2026 and possible temporary closures. That report does not establish what the road will be like in November, so neither a fully paved route nor a journey time can be guaranteed.

If the weather requires changes, one suggested adjustment is to swap the days for Vila Velha and Buraco do Padre, provided their operations and your bookings allow it. Keep Friday for culture where possible: Centro de Cultura publishes opening hours from Monday to Friday. Museu Campos Gerais is also an indoor alternative on Saturday, within its published hours, but visiting it that day may mean giving up part of a park visit. The evidence does not confirm an indoor alternative for Sunday.

Turn the itinerary into a checklist and budget

Once you have chosen your itinerary, use Mala Inteligente to turn your outings into a checklist. Select the total trip duration, including travel time, the expected weather and the travellers’ profiles. Then review items such as closed-toe shoes, a water bottle, sun protection and a warm layer according to the forecast shortly before departure. Include what you intend to wear for the theatre evening too; the tool organises the list but does not automatically forecast the weather.

In the cost calculator, account for your entire stay, not just the three sightseeing days. The tool uses reference figures in Brazilian reais for accommodation, food and transport, plus a 15% buffer. Treat the result as an illustrative estimate and supplement your planning with the actual prices of your chosen tickets for Vila Velha, Buraco do Padre, additional activities and Fenata. These tickets should not be assumed to be included already, and the result is not a price quote.

Which option suits you?

OptionA good fit if…What to consider
Stay in the city centre throughout the tripTravellers who want to visit the museums and attend Fenata, leaving a full day for each park. This is the suggested base for this itinerary. You will still need to arrange travel to Vila Velha and Buraco do Padre; staying in the centre does not mean every journey can be made on foot.
Stay in the city centre with a car for the two nature daysTravellers who prefer flexibility when leaving for the parks and returning to rest.Add parking and transport to your budget. Check conditions on the access route to Buraco do Padre before setting off.
Choose Taça and short routes at Vila Velha, and Trilha Principal at Buraco do PadreTravellers who want to combine culture and nature with less walking. You reduce the exertion while keeping specific attractions in your plans, but leave out the full Arenitos and Bosque circuit and the climb to Fenda da Freira.
Choose Arenitos and Bosque at Vila Velha, and Fenda da Freira at Buraco do PadreTravellers who want to walk further and are willing to organise activities with booked time slots. The itinerary gains more demanding routes. Your itinerary, ready to save

Friday, 13 November 2026 — a day of culture

Start at Museu Campos Gerais at 09:00. Then visit Museu Ferroviário Francisco Búrzio at Estação Saudade, walk along the platform and take a break at Café-Escola Senac. Set aside part of the afternoon for Centro de Cultura on Rua Dr. Collares, and return to your accommodation before the theatre.

Prefer an alternative? If you prefer to start at Estação Saudade, confirm its opening hours and visit Museu Campos Gerais when it reopens in the afternoon at 13:30; then continue to Centro de Cultura, whose published opening hours run until 19:00.

Friday, 13 November 2026 — an evening at Fenata

Once you have obtained a ticket, see Ficções, starring Vera Holtz, at 20:00 in Auditorium A of Cine-Teatro Ópera. The performance adds theatre to your museum day and leaves the following evenings free for rest.

Prefer an alternative? If the opening performance does not fit your plans or tickets are unavailable, the programme lists Dez em Cena on 14 and 15 November 2026 at 22:00 in Auditorium B. Choose one of these evenings with time to rest after the park in mind, and check the ticketing arrangements.

Saturday, 14 November 2026 — Parque Vila Velha

Leave the city centre for Vila Velha, accessed via the BR-376. Devote the morning to Arenitos and, if that matches your preferred level of exertion, the Arenitos and Bosque circuit. For lunch, we suggest Restaurante Girassol at the Visitor Centre. Afterwards, use the internal transport to combine Furnas and Lagoa Dourada, keeping to the park’s schedules.

Prefer an alternative? To reduce the walking, choose the 1,100 m route through Arenitos or the short 150 m access route to Taça, depending on what is operating. If Lagoa Dourada is closed, keep Arenitos and Furnas in your plans, provided they are open.

Sunday, 15 November 2026 — Buraco do Padre

After confirming conditions on the access route via Itaiacoca, head to Buraco do Padre and follow Trilha Principal to reach the sinkhole at your booked time. For lunch, we suggest Restaurante Geo, whose weekend and public holiday buffet is listed as running from 11:30 to 15:00. Complete your visit with the stingless bee apiary and return to the city centre.

Prefer an alternative? For more walking, book Fenda da Freira with a guide at a time that fits around the sinkhole visit and lunch. To keep the day less strenuous, stick to Trilha Principal, the sinkhole, the stingless bee apiary and Geo, without adding the climb to the viewpoints.

Before you go

  • Set aside three full days for sightseeing from 13 to 15 November 2026; account for arrival and departure separately in your accommodation plans and budget.
  • Before booking accommodation in the city centre, check its address in relation to Museu Campos Gerais, Estação Saudade and Cine-Teatro Ópera. If you are using a car, check parking availability and conditions.
  • Reconfirm the cultural venues’ opening hours checked on 6 November 2026: Museu Campos Gerais opens Tuesday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 11:45 and from 13:30 to 17:00; Centro de Cultura opens Monday to Friday, from 13:00 to 19:00.
  • Check the opening hours of the railway museum and Café-Escola Senac before finalising Friday’s sequence.
  • Obtain a Fenata ticket for your chosen performance. UEPG states that tickets are also issued for free performances.
  • Check tickets, internal transport and which trails are open at Vila Velha. The hours published by IAT are 09:00 to 17:00, Wednesday to Monday and on public holidays.
  • Book a time slot for the Buraco do Padre sinkhole and, if you want to visit Fenda da Freira, check its booking arrangements, minimum age of six and other restrictions separately.
  • Confirm conditions on the access route via Itaiacoca with Buraco do Padre. The roadworks report published in June does not establish the road’s condition in November.
  • Reconfirm service at Girassol and Geo for the day of your visit. The café at Estação Saudade is a place for a break; the evidence does not confirm a full lunch service.
  • Use the forecast shortly before departure to review your Mala Inteligente checklist, and add the tickets you actually choose to your budget without assuming they are included in the calculator.

Questions to help you decide

Is it worth staying in central Ponta Grossa?

Yes, for this combination of outings. We suggest keeping a single accommodation base in the city centre, visiting the cultural venues on the first day and heading to one park on each of the following days. Check the accommodation’s address in relation to Museu Campos Gerais, Estação Saudade and Cine-Teatro Ópera before booking.

Are three days enough?

Three full days accommodate this selection: the city centre and Fenata, Vila Velha, and Buraco do Padre. Arrival and departure are excluded from the count. This is not a comprehensive itinerary covering all of Ponta Grossa’s attractions.

Do I need a car for the whole trip?

A car is suggested for convenience when visiting the parks, without assuming you need to drive between every city attraction. If you are travelling without a car, arrange transport to and from Vila Velha and Buraco do Padre in advance; the evidence consulted does not support recommending public transport routes or timetables.

Which Fenata performance fits the itinerary?

The opening of the 54th Fenata features Ficções, starring Vera Holtz, on 13 November 2026 at 20:00 in Auditorium A of Cine-Teatro Ópera. It is the suggested best fit after the cultural sightseeing day. Check ticket availability; confirmation of the performance does not guarantee a seat.

Is it worth combining Vila Velha and Buraco do Padre on the same day?

The suggestion here is to visit the parks on separate days. Vila Velha brings together Arenitos, Furnas and Lagoa Dourada; Buraco do Padre has timed entry to the sinkhole, lunch at Geo and additional walking options. Giving each one a day lets you enjoy these differences without making the return journey rushed.

How can I adapt the park visits to walk less?

At Vila Velha, IAT lists a short 150 m access route to Taça and a 1,100 m route through Arenitos, in addition to the longer circuit. At Buraco do Padre, the alternative to Fenda da Freira is to combine the 880 m Trilha Principal with the sinkhole, the stingless bee apiary and Restaurante Geo. A shorter distance does not mean no exertion.

Which food stops are supported by the sources?

Café-Escola Senac is confirmed on the Estação Saudade platform and is included as a place for a break. For lunch in the parks, the sources identify Restaurante Girassol at Vila Velha’s Visitor Centre and Restaurante Geo at Buraco do Padre. This research does not confirm current prices or specific dishes.
