Campos do Jordão in four days: gardens, museums, Horto and Festival da Viola
4 full days in Campos do Jordão: Capivari, Amantikir, Palácio Boa Vista, CARDE, Felícia Leirner, Horto & meals en route. Optional Festival da Viola, Nov 2026.

GETTING STARTED
Combine Capivari and the cable car, Amantikir and Palácio Boa Vista, CARDE and Felícia Leirner, and a day at Horto, with breaks at Dona Chica and LIA Gastronomia. For 12–15 November 2026, the itinerary also fits in the Festival da Viola final, with Bruna Viola announced in the programme. Allow four full days, plus arrival and departure days.
Who it is for: First-time visitors to Campos do Jordão who want four full days of gardens, art, nature and food, with a car or prearranged transport for attractions further afield.Four days of sightseeing, with a convenient base to return to
You can plan four very different days in Campos do Jordão: one for Capivari and the cable car, another for Amantikir and Palácio Boa Vista, a third for CARDE and Felícia Leirner, and the last for Horto. The appeal of this combination is alternating gardens, art, walking and meals that fit naturally into the day's route, without turning each day into a string of admission tickets.
This itinerary covers four full days, excluding arrival and departure. To include Festival da Viola, we suggest sightseeing from 12 to 15 November 2026, arriving before Thursday and leaving after Sunday. The order was planned around opening days during that period; it is an editorial suggestion, not an official municipal itinerary.
Capivari is our suggested base if you want to return from sightseeing and still walk around the tourist centre or go out for a meal. Alto da Boa Vista makes sense if the museums and the festival final are a bigger part of your plans, but you will need to consider travel to other areas. Choose accommodation that fits your itinerary and arrange a car or prearranged transport for Amantikir, the museums and Horto.
Capivari: walking, the cable car and lunch in one outing
Start in Capivari to get to know the tourist centre without crossing the city first thing in the morning. At Parque Capivari, at Rua Engenheiro Diogo José de Carvalho, 1291, you will find a lake, landscaped grounds, shops and attractions. Walk around first, then choose what really interests you: the cable car, Ferris wheel, pedal boats and carousel do not all have to go on the same bill.
The cable car offers both chairs and enclosed cabins, according to the operator. Set aside part of the afternoon for it, allowing room for changes: rain or strong winds may suspend attractions. If you adapt this itinerary for a Tuesday, one detail changes the start of the outing: on that day, the cable car lists its opening time as 13:00.
For lunch, we suggest Dona Chica Capivari, at the same address as the park. The group's current website describes regional Mantiqueira cuisine, giving the meal a connection to the destination beyond its convenient location. This branch lists opening hours of 11:30–21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays; check the menu and dining arrangements close to your visit.
If you are in town on 12 November 2026 and want to hear music on your first evening, fit in a break at your accommodation before heading to the Festival da Viola qualifying round in Vila Abernéssia. It is at a different address in another area, so arrange transport there and back.
Amantikir: a morning to explore the gardens
Set aside the morning of your second day for Amantikir, at Rua Simplício de Toledo Neto, 2200, in Gavião Gonzaga. Visiting the gardens offers a change of pace after Capivari: take a walk, observe the hedge designs and spend time in the maze, without scheduling your next outing for mid-morning.
The park states that it opens daily from 09:00, visitors may stay until 16:00, and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a parking charge. For those who do not drive, Amantikir itself mentions tourist transport from Capivari; confirm the service and return arrangements before planning your afternoon.
Our suggestion is to visit Palácio Boa Vista afterwards. To fit lunch at a named restaurant with researched opening hours between the two visits, you can return to Dona Chica Capivari. This return adds a journey: it is neither a stop inside Amantikir nor a promise of a direct route to the palace. Get to the gardens early and allow enough time for the afternoon visiting hours.
The two photographs in this section are archive images of Amantikir, taken at different times. They help illustrate the layout of the gardens but do not establish their current state of upkeep.

The maze is part of the morning devoted to Amantikir: leave room in your itinerary to explore the gardens without scheduling the next outing too soon.

Palácio Boa Vista: art and an accompanied afternoon visit
After Amantikir, move from the gardens to the interiors of Palácio Boa Vista, at Avenida Adhemar de Barros, 3001. The building also serves as a house museum, bringing together paintings, sculptures, furniture and art objects. A visit accompanied by educators adds context to what you see and offers a different experience from the other two museums in the itinerary.
According to the official page for the Government Palaces' Artistic and Cultural Collection, admission is free, with groups of up to 20 people admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. On Fridays, including 13 November 2026, visits without advance booking are available from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00. For this combination of visits, the afternoon slot is the relevant one.
Check visiting arrangements before setting out: rain or official use of the palace may suspend access. If that happens, a practical alternative is to bring forward your visit to CARDE, also in Alto da Boa Vista, where admission is available until 16:30. In that case, reorganise Saturday around Felícia Leirner and the festival instead of visiting CARDE again.

After the gardens, Palácio Boa Vista shifts the afternoon's focus to art, furniture and a visit accompanied by educators.

CARDE and Felícia Leirner: two museums, two ways of seeing
Start your third day at CARDE, at Rua Benedito Olímpio Miranda, 280, Alto da Boa Vista. The institution brings together cars, art, design and education in a 6,000-square-metre building surrounded by araucaria forest. This is a visit for exploring how different subjects intersect, rather than just a stop for car enthusiasts.
The museum opens from Thursday to Monday, 10:00–18:00, with last admission at 16:30, and recommends allowing at least an hour and a half for a visit. Arriving in the morning lets you explore before lunch and leaves the afternoon free for Museu Felícia Leirner.
Have lunch at LIA Gastronomia inside CARDE: the museum's official page confirms original cuisine featuring Brazilian flavours and service from 12:00 to 16:00 on opening days. If you prefer a break for a snack, cake or dessert, LIA Café opens from 10:00 to 18:00. Both serve museum visitors only, so your meal must be part of a museum visit.
Afterwards, travel by vehicle to Museu Felícia Leirner, at Avenida Dr. Luís Arrobas Martins, 1880. Its collection comprises 88 works displayed throughout the garden of a wooded site shared with Auditório Claudio Santoro. Here, the appeal lies precisely in the relationship between sculpture and landscape: walk among the works and let the outdoor setting change the pace of your day.
Felícia Leirner lists visiting hours of 09:00–18:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, closing on Mondays except public holidays. On the Saturday of the Festival da Viola final, do not stretch your visit to the last minute: we suggest returning to your accommodation to rest before heading back to the auditorium. Do not assume you can remain in the complex continuously between your museum visit and the event.
Festival da Viola: traditional music on November evenings
The 38th Festival da Viola José Corrêa Cintra gives you a concrete reason to leave an evening free on this trip. The Municipal Department for the Promotion of Culture confirmed the dates and venues, and the municipal government announced Bruna Viola in the final's programme. The festival celebrates traditional sertanejo music and emerging performers: it is an opportunity to add caipira folk music to your days of gardens and museums.
Our choice for anyone who wants to attend just one evening is the final on Saturday, 14 November 2026. Its location fits with the day at CARDE and Felícia Leirner, but you will still need to plan for rest, food and transport back. The announced start time for the final is 19:00; there is no confirmation that this is the specific time of the singer's performance.
Before adding the evening to your plans, confirm the admission arrangements for the public. The publications consulted do not clarify all these details, and free registration for performers does not mean free admission for the audience. Event research was carried out on 7 November 2026: the general municipal listings were inconclusive, but the two specific official publications confirm this festival.
- 12 and 13 November 2026, at 19:00: qualifying rounds at Espaço Cultural Dr. Além, Avenida Dr. Januário Miraglia, 1582, Vila Abernéssia.
- 14 November 2026, at 19:00: final at Auditório Claudio Santoro, Avenida Luís Arrobas Martins, 1880, Alto da Boa Vista, with a Bruna Viola performance announced in the programme.
Horto: a riverside walk and lunch without leaving the park
Save the fourth day for Parque Estadual Campos do Jordão, known as Horto. The idea is to move on from the sequence of museums and devote a morning to walking, with lunch inside the park and an afternoon without another commitment far away. The listed access point for Trilha do Rio Sapucaí is through the entrance gate on Avenida Pedro Paulo, s/n (no street number).
Trilha do Rio Sapucaí is a self-guided trail covering 2–3 kilometres through grassland and woodland, following the river. The state's technical information sheet rates its difficulty as moderate; that is the reference that should guide your choice, even if the promotional text calls it easy. Check that the trail is open before setting off and decide whether this level of exertion suits your group.
After the walk, we suggest lunch at Dona Chica Horto. The group's current website confirms the branch inside the state park and daily service from 11:30 to 17:00. Regional Mantiqueira cuisine keeps the meal connected to your trip, and the location lets you eat without leaving the park.
If you would rather skip the trail, you can keep lunch at Horto, provided the park is open to visitors, and head to Felícia Leirner's sculpture garden in the afternoon. This change adds a journey and works particularly well if rain prevented your museum visit on Saturday. The photograph of the stream illustrates Horto's landscape but does not identify Trilha do Rio Sapucaí.

How to swap days without missing the sights
If the weather changes, CARDE is the main indoor alternative in this selection. Bring forward the visit and your meal at LIA Gastronomia, moving the cable car or Amantikir to the time slot that becomes free. This swap preserves the variety of the four days and avoids paying for another attraction just to fill the schedule.
Palácio Boa Vista is not a guaranteed rainy-day alternative, as it may suspend visits, and Felícia Leirner's collection is displayed outdoors. If Saturday is rainy, take more time at CARDE and move the sculpture garden to Sunday, shortening your time at Horto.
For other dates, check the museums first: CARDE closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays unless there is special programming; Felícia Leirner closes on Mondays except public holidays. Palácio Boa Vista lists visits without advance booking on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, and on Thursdays only from 14:00 to 17:00. These hours guide the order of the outings without prescribing an ideal length for every trip to Campos do Jordão.
Turn the itinerary into a packing list and budget
Once you have settled the order of your visits, use Mala Inteligente to turn the trip into a checklist. Enter the total duration, including arrival and departure, the travellers' profiles and the weather forecast close to departure. Then review the list with three specific situations in mind: a walk at Horto, a morning in Amantikir's gardens and an evening of cultural events.
In Calculadora de Viagem, enter your destination, number of days, number of people and travel style to generate an estimate. The tool provides an estimate in Brazilian reais for accommodation, food and transport, using reference prices and a 15% margin. Compare the result with the prices you find for accommodation and travel between attractions, then add admission fees for your chosen sights. The result is a starting point for organising your budget, not a quote.
To continue your research, the Campos do Jordão page on Viajandar brings together information about the municipality and ways to explore listed accommodation and services. Use these listings as a starting point and check current conditions directly before booking.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Stay in Capivari | You want to combine meals, walks around the tourist centre and a cable car ride. | Amantikir, Horto and the museums still require travel between areas. |
| Stay in Alto da Boa Vista | CARDE, Palácio Boa Vista, Felícia Leirner and the Festival da Viola final are major parts of your trip. | Plan transport for meals and sightseeing in Capivari, as well as for Amantikir and Horto. |
| Travel from 12 to 15 November 2026 | You want to add traditional sertanejo music to your four days of sightseeing. | Arrival falls before the 12th and departure after the 15th. Confirm the festival's admission arrangements and organise your return journey at night. |
| Walk Trilha do Rio Sapucaí | You want to walk alongside the river inside the state park. | The self-guided route covers 2–3 kilometres and has a technical difficulty rating of moderate; check that it is open before setting off. |
| Bring forward your visit to CARDE | The forecast calls for an indoor experience instead of the cable car or gardens. | The museum opens from Thursday to Monday. Swap the order of your days to keep Amantikir and Felícia Leirner in another time slot. |
Your itinerary, ready to save
Day 1 — Thursday, 12 November 2026
Start with walks around the tourist centre and Parque Capivari, have lunch at Dona Chica Capivari and set aside the afternoon for the cable car. If you want to attend the Festival da Viola qualifying rounds, take a break at your accommodation and head to Espaço Cultural Dr. Além, in Vila Abernéssia, for the programme starting at 19:00.
Prefer an alternative? If the cable car is suspended, bring forward CARDE and have lunch at LIA Gastronomia. Move Capivari to the time originally set aside for CARDE on Saturday, keeping Felícia Leirner and the festival final on that day.Day 2 — Friday, 13 November 2026
Visit Amantikir in the morning, from 09:00. For a break at a specified restaurant, we suggest lunch at Dona Chica Capivari: this return adds travel time and needs to fit in before the afternoon visit to Palácio Boa Vista, between 14:00 and 17:00. In the evening, there is another festival qualifying round at Espaço Cultural Dr. Além at 19:00.
Prefer an alternative? If Palácio Boa Vista suspends visits, use the afternoon for CARDE, allowing for last admission at 16:30. On Saturday, keep Felícia Leirner in your plans and try the palace again only after confirming that visits are available.Day 3 — Saturday, 14 November 2026
Start at CARDE at 10:00, have lunch at LIA Gastronomia from 12:00 and travel by vehicle to Museu Felícia Leirner. Leave time to rest at your accommodation before returning to Auditório Claudio Santoro for the Festival da Viola final, announced for 19:00, with a Bruna Viola performance in the programme.
Prefer an alternative? If it rains, focus your visit on CARDE, with lunch at LIA Gastronomia and a break at LIA Café. Move Felícia Leirner to Sunday and shorten your stay at Horto, arranging transport between the two.Day 4 — Sunday, 15 November 2026
Devote the day to Parque Estadual Campos do Jordão: walk Trilha do Rio Sapucaí in the morning if it is open, have lunch at Dona Chica Horto and leave the afternoon free to stay in the park without another commitment far away. Return to Capivari to round off the trip with a walk and, if you wish, dinner at Dona Chica Capivari.
Prefer an alternative? If Trilha do Rio Sapucaí is closed or you would rather skip the moderately difficult walk, keep lunch at Dona Chica Horto, provided the park is receiving visitors, and use the afternoon for the sculpture garden at Museu Felícia Leirner, arranging your own transport. Before you go
- Allow four full days of sightseeing and add arrival and departure days. The dated itinerary runs from 12 to 15 November 2026.
- Reconfirm hours and rules close to your trip: the information for this article was checked on 7 November 2026.
- Confirm public admission arrangements for Festival da Viola and your return transport. The announced time of 19:00 is for the final, not a confirmed specific time for Bruna Viola's performance.
- Arrange transport for Amantikir, Alto da Boa Vista and Horto. Do not treat outings combining different areas as entirely walkable.
- At Palácio Boa Vista, check for any suspension of visits due to rain or official use. Visits are on a first-come, first-served basis in groups of up to 20 people.
- Check that Trilha do Rio Sapucaí is open and consider its technical difficulty rating of moderate before including it in your day.
- At CARDE, allow for last admission at 16:30. LIA Gastronomia and LIA Café serve museum visitors only.
- Check admission fees, parking charges, meal prices and transport costs separately. The calculator provides an estimate in Brazilian reais, not a quote.
Questions to help you decide
Do the four days include arrival and departure?
This itinerary covers four full days of sightseeing, excluding arrival and departure. It offers a selection of Capivari, gardens, museums and Horto without trying to cover the whole city. To follow the suggested dates of 12–15 November 2026, arrange to arrive before the 12th and leave after the 15th.
Which area makes the most sense as a base?
Capivari is the suggested choice for those who want to focus their walks and meals in the tourist centre. Alto da Boa Vista suits an interest in the museums and the Festival da Viola final. In either case, Amantikir and Horto require transport planning.
Can I follow the itinerary without a car?
Yes, with prearranged transport for attractions further afield. Amantikir lists a tourist transport option from Capivari. Museu Felícia Leirner also publishes bus access information via the Pronto Socorro S3 stop, followed by a 900-metre walk, but this information does not guarantee service frequency or the accessibility of the route. Arrange your return journey from each outing, especially after the festival.
Is Festival da Viola confirmed, and is it free?
The qualifying rounds are confirmed for 12 and 13 November 2026 at 19:00 at Espaço Cultural Dr. Além. The final takes place on 14 November 2026 at 19:00 at Auditório Claudio Santoro, with an announced performance by Bruna Viola. The sources consulted do not clarify all public admission arrangements; free registration for performers does not establish that audience admission is free.
What should I change if it rains?
Bring forward CARDE, which offers an indoor visit and opens from Thursday to Monday. Rain or strong winds may suspend attractions at Parque Capivari. Palácio Boa Vista may also suspend visits because of rain, and Felícia Leirner's sculpture garden is outdoors.
Can I enter CARDE just for lunch?
LIA Gastronomia and LIA Café are accessible only to museum visitors. Lunch at the restaurant is therefore part of your day visiting CARDE; do not count on it as a standalone stop.
