Itu in Three Days: Centro, Varvito and the Arts Festival in November 2026
Spend three full days in Itu, 6–8 November 2026, staying in Centro and exploring heritage sites, Varvito, FAMA and free Arts Festival performances.

GETTING STARTED
Stay in Centro, explore the heritage sites on foot on Friday, combine Praça dos Exageros and Fábrica São Pedro on Saturday, and set aside Sunday for Varvito. From 6 to 8 November 2026, free Arts Festival performances round out the three days, with rainy-day alternatives and considered choices about transport and tickets.
Who it is for: Couples, families and travellers interested in history, art and outdoor outings who want to keep an eye on spending.Three days based in Centro, with music after sightseeing
To make the most of these three days in Itu, the most practical approach is to stay in Centro, explore the heritage sites on foot on Friday, and save the journeys to Praça dos Exageros, Fábrica São Pedro and Varvito for the other days. This lets you return to the area around your accommodation for the Arts Festival performances without crossing the city every time you move on to another attraction.
This itinerary is designed for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6 to 8 November 2026. It covers three full days of urban sightseeing; arrival and departure are not included in that count. It focuses on history, art and a park, without trying to fit in Itu's rural experiences as well.
According to the city government, the 32nd Arts Festival runs from 28 October to 8 November 2026, with free performances. The official programme, consulted on 2 November 2026, allows you to fit in a guitar recital on Friday, a choir on Saturday and a band on Sunday. The music gives you a specific reason to stay in Centro after sightseeing.
Choose accommodation with the whole route in mind
When looking for accommodation, use Praça Padre Miguel, Museu Republicano and Praça do Carmo as landmarks to check its location. The suggestion is to stay in Centro because these places feature several times during the trip. Jardim Paraíso is also worth comparing, but add up the cost of rides or using a car before deciding based on the nightly rate. Rural accommodation is better suited to a trip that also sets aside time to enjoy the property itself.
For those driving from São Paulo, the city government recommends the Castelo Branco highway, taking the exit at kilometre 78 for the SP-75. From Campinas, the suggested route is Santos Dumont/SP-75; via Jundiaí, the SP-300 is an alternative. Compare fuel, tolls and parking with fares and local transport, using prices researched for your travel date.
The bus station is on Avenida Dr. Otaviano Pereira Mendes, in the Liberdade neighbourhood. APRECESP lists MoV municipal transport, taxis and ride-hailing services, as well as a taxi rank in Praça Padre Miguel. This helps you plan a trip without a car, but check routes, timetables and the return journey from each outing before setting off.
On Friday, the idea is to explore the historic route on foot, at your group's pace. On Saturday, arrange the route as Praça dos Exageros → Fábrica São Pedro → Centro. On Sunday, follow Varvito → Centro. These sequences avoid returning to your accommodation between attractions; compare transport options for each leg.
Friday morning: Cruzeiro Franciscano and Bom Jesus
Start Friday at Cruzeiro Franciscano, in Praça Dom Pedro I, and continue to Bom Jesus, in Praça Padre Anchieta. The municipal route links this ensemble, the Matriz church and Carmo along a route described as roughly 800 metres long. It is a good way to understand how the churches and squares connect before heading into the museums.
Bom Jesus is worth a stop for its church dating from 1765 and the adjoining sanctuary, documented since 1904. The Tourism Department lists visiting hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 8 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm. A morning visit fits better with lunch on Rua Paula Souza and leaves the afternoon free for Museu Republicano.
If a service is taking place, respect the religious use of the space. You can view the ensemble from Praça Padre Anchieta and continue along Rua Paula Souza to Praça Padre Miguel, returning to see the interior only if it fits into the rest of your day.

Lunch on Rua Paula Souza and an afternoon at Museu Republicano
The suggestion for lunch is Bar do Alemão, at Rua Paula Souza, 575. The establishment traces its history back to 1902 and advertises steak parmigiana (filé à parmegiana) as its speciality. It is included here for its tradition and its location along the sightseeing route; this does not mean it is the cheapest meal option. Check prices and portion sizes before ordering.
Afterwards, continue to Museu Republicano, at Rua Barão de Itaim, 67. The two-storey building hosted the Itu Convention of 1873 and houses a collection covering republican history and the city. The tile panels in the entrance hall also give you a reason to look closely at the building itself, as well as the exhibitions.
USP's official visitor information lists opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Set aside part of the afternoon for this visit and leave Praça Padre Miguel until afterwards. If you would rather devote Friday to the churches, you can visit the museum at 10 am on Saturday morning instead of Praça dos Exageros.

Praça Padre Miguel, Carmo and a Friday evening recital
From the museum, continue to Praça Padre Miguel. This is where you will find the Orelhão and Semáforo Gigante: you can include them in your walk around Centro without setting aside a separate outing or making the stop dependent on buying souvenirs. Praça dos Exageros is in another neighbourhood and is included on Saturday.
In the same square, visit the Matriz church to see its Baroque and Rococo woodcarvings and paintings, while respecting any services. Then continue to Praça da Independência to view the Carmo ensemble. The church has paintings by Padre Jesuíno do Monte Carmelo, but confirm whether you can visit the interior, as the municipal page does not provide tourist visiting hours.
At 7 pm on 6 November 2026, guitarist Guilherme Lamas gives a seven-string guitar recital at the Centro de Estudos do Museu Republicano. The address is Rua Barão de Itaim, 140: take care not to return to number 67, which houses the museum visited in the afternoon. The free performance brings the day to a musical close, still in Centro; its time follows the festival programme, not the museum's daytime opening hours.

Praça Padre Miguel combines an outdoor break and a visit to the Matriz church on the same stretch of the route.

Saturday morning: giant objects or a switch to Varvito
On Saturday, visit Praça dos Exageros, at Rua José Maria dos Passos, 200, Vila Padre Bento. The space brings together giant objects and a reference to the comedian Simplício. It is a particularly appealing choice for families who want to give children a morning that differs from the succession of churches and museums.
The municipal website lists opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 8 am to 4:45 pm. Visiting in the morning allows you to continue afterwards to Fábrica São Pedro, which welcomes visitors from noon. Leave some extra time for the journey between the two places, rather than scheduling lunch too tightly.
If the stop at Praça Padre Miguel has already given you a good look at the giant objects, swap this morning's visit for Varvito. The change has a clear advantage for music lovers: it frees up Sunday to see Banda do Carmo at 11 am. Make this choice before setting off, so you do not try to fit both outlying attractions into the same morning.
Lunch and art at Fábrica São Pedro, then a choir back in Centro
Enter Centro Cultural Fábrica São Pedro via Rua Padre Bartolomeu Tadei, 9. The complex occupies the former Companhia Fiação e Tecelagem São Pedro; at FAMA, modern and contemporary Brazilian art meets former industrial buildings and gardens. After Friday's religious and political heritage, this change of setting adds variety to the trip.
You can take your meal break right there, at Cozinha São Pedro. FAMA's official page confirms that the restaurant is inside the cultural centre and lists service from Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Having lunch before the exhibitions avoids leaving for another area and coming back. Confirm service and check the menu, without counting on a particular dish or table.
The complex's advertised visiting hours are Thursday to Sunday, noon to 6 pm. Keep the choices distinct: access to the cultural centre is free; the FAMA and Asas de Um Sonho museums charge admission; Ateliê Kobra requires a separate ticket. Prioritise FAMA if you want to explore modern and contemporary Brazilian art and spend the afternoon in the former industrial buildings. If you need to cut costs, stick to the cultural centre's free-access areas.
After the visit, return to Centro and take a break at your accommodation. At 8 pm on 7 November 2026, Coral da UNEI gives a free performance in Praça do Carmo. This gives your second evening a planned activity too, without adding an admission charge to the budget.
Sunday: Varvito's rock layers and bands in Carmo
Set aside Sunday morning for Parque Geológico do Varvito, at Rua Parque do Varvito, 400, Parque Nossa Senhora Candelária. The former quarry exposes layers of sedimentary rock associated with a glaciation and has heritage protected by Condephaat. The appeal lies in observing these layers and imagining a timescale very different from that of Centro's historic houses.
The Tourism Department lists opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 8 am to 4:45 pm, and states that the park closes on rainy days. Check that it is open before travelling there. The municipal page does not explicitly state that admission is free, so confirm entry conditions as well.
Afterwards, return to Centro for lunch before Banda União plays at 3 pm on 8 November 2026 in Praça do Carmo. Bar do Alemão is an option for this break; the municipal directory lists Sunday service from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. Whether to return to the same establishment is up to you, after checking the menu and your budget.
If you moved Varvito to Saturday, you can also see Banda do Carmo at 11 am on 8 November 2026 in the same square. To extend your final day, Filarmônica de Itu performs at 8 pm in the Matriz church. All these performances are part of the festival's free programme; keep departure outside the three-day count if you want to enjoy the evening concert.

The layers exposed in the former quarry are the reason to set aside a morning for Varvito.

How to rearrange the days if it rains
If rain is forecast for Sunday and Saturday remains suitable, replace Praça dos Exageros with Varvito on Saturday morning. You keep the geological outing and leave Sunday for Centro. The square with giant objects drops out of this itinerary; trying to fit everything back in tends to add journeys and make the trip more rushed.
If you have not yet visited the museums, start Sunday at Museu Republicano at 10 am, exploring the collection about Itu and the tile panels in the entrance hall. Then take transport to Fábrica São Pedro: have lunch at Cozinha São Pedro from noon and devote the afternoon to FAMA, which is open until 6 pm. This sequence combines political history, lunch and art in covered spaces. It replaces Banda União's 3 pm performance, so you do not need to interrupt your visit and rush back to Centro.
Have you already visited both museums? Return to Bom Jesus on Sunday morning, within its advertised hours of 8 am to noon. This is a chance to see the interior if a service prevented you from entering on Friday; respect Sunday's religious programme too. Then continue along Rua Paula Souza for lunch at Bar do Alemão, which advertises service from 11:30 am. To finish the day with music indoors, Filarmônica de Itu performs at the Matriz church at 8 pm on 8 November 2026.
Do not count on Museu da Energia as an alternative: Ibram's official listing still carries a notice of temporary closure for restoration, published on 7 March 2025, and reopening had not been confirmed when it was checked on 2 November 2026.
The photographs in this article are archive images of the places. They help you recognise the attractions, but they do not show the 2026 festival or verify the spaces' current appearance or operation.
Turn the route into a budget and checklist
The most reliable savings in this itinerary come from three choices: keeping your accommodation close to the central attractions, avoiding intermediate return trips on days with outlying sights, and deciding which tickets at the Fábrica São Pedro complex really interest you. The festival's free performances add activities without admission charges, but meals and transport still need to be included in your costs.
In Viajandar's travel cost calculator, enter Itu, three days, the number of people and your travel style. The result is an illustrative estimate in Brazilian reais, with reference amounts for accommodation, food, transport and a contingency allowance. Compare the simulation with the prices you research, and add your chosen admission tickets and arrival and departure expenses to the plan. Also count the nights needed to have three full days; the tool does not provide a quote.
Then use Mala Inteligente to turn the itinerary into a checklist. Select the duration, expected weather and traveller profiles; check that you have comfortable walking shoes, protection from sun and rain, and documents for admission concessions, where applicable. Selecting the weather helps organise your packing, but does not replace the weather forecast.
To continue your local research, Viajandar's Itu guide brings together destination content and access to accommodation and dining categories. Use the addresses you find to compare how they fit into the route, and confirm each establishment's conditions directly.
Which option suits you?
| Option | A good fit if… | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Stay in Centro | This suits travellers who want to walk between heritage sites, meals and festival performances. | This is the most straightforward fit for this itinerary. Compare the cost of the stay, any parking charges and the accommodation's exact location before booking. |
| Compare Jardim Paraíso with Centro | This suits travellers who have found accommodation outside Centro that better meets their group's needs. | A lower nightly rate may lose its advantage once you factor in journeys to and from attractions and evening performances. |
| Choose rural accommodation | This suits travellers who intend to devote part of the trip to the property itself. | This requires additional journeys for this urban itinerary. It makes more sense if enjoying the accommodation itself is also a priority. |
| Book a ticket for FAMA | This suits travellers who want to include modern and contemporary Brazilian art in their trip. | The museum charges admission; free access to Centro Cultural Fábrica São Pedro does not automatically include the museums. Ateliê Kobra requires a separate ticket. |
| Combine Fábrica São Pedro's free areas with the Arts Festival | This suits travellers who prefer to focus their spending on accommodation and food. | You include industrial heritage and free music, but miss the paid exhibitions for which you do not purchase admission. |

Questions to help you decide
Do I need a car to follow the itinerary?
You can organise the trip without a car: there is a bus station, municipal transport, taxis and ride-hailing services. Spend the first day exploring Centro on foot, and check options for getting to and from Praça dos Exageros, Fábrica São Pedro and Varvito. Service frequencies, fares and ride availability need to be checked for your trip.
Which area should I choose for my stay?
For this combination of attractions, Centro is the most practical suggestion. It puts your accommodation close to the churches, Museu Republicano, meals and performances. Compare any alternative by the total cost of accommodation, transport and parking.
Which activities are confirmed to be free?
Performances at the 32nd Arts Festival are free, according to the city government. Access to Centro Cultural Fábrica São Pedro is also free, but the FAMA and Asas de Um Sonho museums charge admission, and Ateliê Kobra requires a separate ticket. Confirm entry conditions for the other attractions.
What should I do if it rains on the day planned for Varvito?
Varvito does not open on rainy days. On Sunday, you can visit Museu Republicano at 10 am, continue to lunch at Cozinha São Pedro from noon, and spend the afternoon at FAMA; in this case, leave Banda União's 3 pm performance out of the sequence. If you have already visited both museums, return to Bom Jesus in the morning, within its advertised hours of 8 am to noon and respecting any services, then have lunch at Bar do Alemão on Rua Paula Souza. In the evening, Filarmônica de Itu is scheduled to perform at 8 pm on 8 November 2026 in the Matriz church.
Is the Orelhão Gigante in Praça dos Exageros?
No. The Orelhão and Semáforo Gigante are in Praça Padre Miguel, in Centro. Praça dos Exageros is in Vila Padre Bento and needs to be included separately in your transport planning.
Can I use this itinerary outside the festival weekend?
Yes, as an itinerary for three full days in the urban area. The music programme mentioned applies specifically to 6–8 November 2026. On other dates, keep the attractions according to their opening days and check a new programme; arrival and departure still fall outside the count.
